1992522 pages including black and white illustrations. Avails students and scholars to a collection of source material dealing with various aspects of the political and social history of the Third Reich. An assemblage of 126 documents, many never previously published or translated. Presents entire original documents or extensive offerings therefrom. "Our principle of selection has been wherever possible to reproduce first-hand accounts representing the attitudes and reactions - the roles and options of specific individuals and social groups. The secondary literature on Nazism is extensive, and scholars continue to make important contributions, but these accounts too often leave the student with little sense of the social conditions or the experiences of individuals inside Hitler's Germany. In addition, we have also tried to integrate the history of politics and society with cultural history. Whereas documentary anthologies have concentrated upon political, diplomatic, and military aspects of the Third Reich, we present materials dealing with 1. the ideological content of Nazism and its appeal to various segments of the population, 2. the cultural and social policies of the regime, and 3. the attitudes and reactions of various individuals and groups toward the dictatorship." - from Preface. Average wear. Unmarked. Binding sound. A significant work. Book

1928First edition. Period boards. 8vo. 151 pages, 25 cm. In Hebrew. Title translates to Critical Evidence Against Wellhausen. Born in Hungary in 1843, Hoffmann was first a teacher and then rector of the Rabbinical Seminary in Berlin, succeeding Israel Hildesheimer, the Seminary's founder, in 1899. He wrote more than half a dozen books, and numerous essays and articles, some of which covered the Seminary. Among Hoffmans intellectual opponents was Julius Wellhausen, who first presented the possibility that the bible was written by numerous narrators. Hoffmann criticized Wellhausen on the grounds that his theory rested entirely on textual analysis while ignoring other disciplines such as archaeology. This book was published for this purpose. OCLC lists 7 copies worldwide with only one copy on the West Coast and abroad. Ex-library with usual markings. Minor wear to boards. Light staining. Overall Good Condition. (HEB-48-47)
