Picasso's Drawings 1890-1921 follows the dazzling development of his drawing practice from the precocious academic exercises of his youth to his renewal of classicism in his virtuoso output of the early 1920s. A selection of more than seventy works on paper with extended entries highlights his stylistic experiments and techniques during this roughly thirty-year period which begins and ends in a classical mode and encompasses his most radical innovations. An essay by Susan Grace Galassi provides a detailed study of Picasso's drawing practice and explores his interest in the Old Masters and Marilyn McCully considers the early critical responses to Picasso's drawings. These discussions of Picasso's style sources and techniques demonstrate how drawing served as an essential means of invention and discovery for the artist. This book brings to the fore Picasso's engagement with artists of the past and the ways in which he perpetuated competed with and ultimately reinvented the practices of his artistic mentors on his own terms. Through emulation allusion dissection and outright hijacking Picasso continued the grand tradition of drawing in a revitalized form. This study reveals the extent to which the artist relied on drawing as a means of synthesizing past and present tradition and innovation to give his own art a bold and vigorous expression. . 2011. 0300170734 . Never declaring full allegiance to the figurative movement or to pure abstraction Rogers forged a style that placed the figure in a setting that includes rich foliage creating tension through the suggestion of allegorical content. This first documentation of Rogers’s life and work details her earliest influences and education the shift following Hurricane Iwa and her work that has grown increasingly complex and ambitious. The book documents not only the progress of an individual artist but reflects the trajectory of women working in the arts in the latter part of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. . 2012. 1555953476 . From the publisher: "Buried in info Cross-eyed over technology From the bottom of a pile of paper and discs books e-books and scattered thumb drives comes a cry of hope: Make way for the librarians! They want to help. They're not selling a thing. And librarians know best how to beat a path through the googolplex sources of information available to us writes Marilyn Johnson whose previous book The Dead Beat breathed merry life into the obituary-writing profession. This Book Is Overdue! Is a romp through the ranks of information professionals and a revelation for readers burned out on the clichÉs and stereotyping of librarians. Blunt and obscenely funny bloggers spill their stories in these pages as do a tattooed hard-partying children's librarian; a fresh-scrubbed Catholic couple who teach missionaries to use computers; a blue-haired radical who uses her smartphone to help guide street protestors; a plethora of voluptuous avatars and cybrarians; the quiet law-abiding librarians gagged by the FBI; and a boxing archivist. These are just a few of the visionaries Johnson captures here pragmatic idealists who fuse the tools of the digital age with their love for the written word and the enduring values of free speech open access and scout-badge-quality assistance to anyone in need. Those who predicted the death of libraries forgot to consider that in the automated maze of contemporary life none of us—neither the experts nor the hopelessly baffled—can get along without human help. FREE UPGRADE to Courier/Priority Shipping Upon Request - IN STOCK AND IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE FOR SHIPMENT - Flawless copy brand new pristine never opened -- Text in English. 90 pp. ; 75 ills. -- with a bonus offer--; This facsimile of a Picasso sketchbook is reproduced in such detail that readers can track the master's red marker pen bleeding through from one side of a page to the next--a subject's varnished nails appear on the verso as abstracted hatchmarks and the red of her lips as a squiggle. Picasso began The Berggruen Album on November 5 1970 days after his eighty-ninth birthday in his words "to make sure my hand has not developed a wobble." He had just conceived a series of a dozen powerful canvases inspired by the bullfights at Frejus and in these delicate sexual voyeuristic sketches he proves his soundness of body and personality his unmatchable fitness to paint. An index of thumbnail sized prints pairs many of the works that inspired them or evolved from them from Ingres to finished Picassos. The book closes with essays by Marilyn McCully and John Richardson whose A Life of Picasso won the Whitbread Prize. . 2006. 0974960705 . D. A. P. /Distributed Art Publishers (Distribution) hardcover

FREE UPGRADE to Courier/Priority Shipping Upon Request - IN STOCK AND IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE FOR SHIPMENT - Flawless copy brand new pristine never opened -- 246 pp. ; 190 illus. 178 in color. -- with a bonus offer--; In 1900 Pablo Picasso went to Paris to visit the Universal Exhibition and experience life in the art capital of the world. His training had been in provincial Spanish art schools but in the space of just a year he was offered an exhibition at the prestigious Vollard Gallery. A few years later he was challenging Matisse for the position of leader of the French avant-garde. This book follows Picasso’s discovery of art and life in the French capital and examines his response to specific artists including Van Gogh Toulouse-Lautrec Rodin and Cézanne. Amid the distractions of the bohemian district of Montmartre he began to forge a personal style which blurred the distinctions between imitation and reality culminating in perhaps the most seminal painting of the 20th century Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. . 2011. 0865652694 .
