réf. 32820468Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe at the beginning of her career. Signed by the photographer in silver ink. Ed Clark was a top photographer for Life magazine in the 1940s 50s and 60s. In 1950 he received a call from a friend at 20th Century Fox wondering if he wanted to photograph "a hot tomato" the little-known 24 year-old actress Marilyn Monroe. Her film career had just begun to gain momentum: three months earlier Monroe had appeared as a crooked lawyer's girlfriend in The Asphalt Jungle. Two months later she had a small role as an aspiring starlet in All About Eve. In a 1999 interview Clark recalled "She was almost unknown then so I was able to spend a lot of time shooting her." "We'd go out to Griffith Park in Los Angeles and she'd read poetry. I sent several rolls to LIFE in New York but they wired back 'Who the hell is Marilyn Monroe'" Printed later by Clark. Ektacolor print. 14 x 11 in. Minor faults in the negative. Fine.
1953réf. 376Original publisher s wrappers. A fine fresh copy which appears to have never been read. Rare first edition of the highly elusive first collectible book devoted exclusively to the now legendary model actress and sex symbol with 39 black & white photographs of her in the early stages of her career. While her husband served in the merchant marine during World War II Monroe found a job inspecting parachutes at the Radioplane Company. Army photographers who had arrived at the plant to take commercial and military pictures of female war workers discovered her. From this first successful posing arose Monroe s fabled love affair with the camera particularly with still photography. She was sensual and at ease before the camera and her direct sexuality mingled with her beauty her innocence and her now lightened blonde hair accounted for her popularity with photographers and filmmakers ANB. This book appeared in the early days of Monroe s fame; at the young age of 27 she had already appeared in such classic films as All About Eve Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and How to Marry a Millionaire. Co-author Franklin was the self-proclaimed King of Nostalgia and host of one of the more eccentric talk shows to appear on New York television… serving up a crazy quilt of guests topics and styles mixing the famous with people on the fringe and the sights and sounds of the past with those that may have no future at all New York Times. Co-author Palmer was herself a model as well as a print journalist. Rudolph Field Company paperback
