réf. WALTER-FILM002150No binding. Fine. Fine Art Print Vintage original 41 x 81"" 103 x 203 cm. three sheet poster USA. Steve McQueen Robert Vaughn Jacqueline Bisset Don Gordon Robert Duvall dir: Peter Yates; Warner Brothers. The classic 1960s action-crime thriller with an iconic performance by Steve McQueen playing the San Francisco cop who becomes obsessed with finding the underground leader responsible for the deaths of witnesses in his protection. Here is one of the finest and most rare posters for this classic title. This example does not appear to have ever been used. Prior to expert linen backing it showed only very minor shelf wear and shows just minor shelf wear such as three minor fold juncture separations a bit of creasing at the very edges and a few minor spots of soiling in the white background. What makes this poster particularly desirable is the fact that the colors match correctly although this poster does not turn up much -- when it occasionally does very often the bottom section has colors which are misaligned with the rest and that most often requires restoration with paint. This copy is unrestored with great nicely matched colors and all the very minor original issues have been attended to in conservation. The poster is now just about as clean and bright an example as possible FINE. 10000.00 unknown books
1954réf. 55808New York: Simon and Schuster 1954. First edition. Very good. Lavishly inscribed association copy with multiple drawings from the surrealist master - signed to movie studio mogul Jack Warner and his wife. Jack Warner 1892-1978 was the legendary co-founder and CEO of Warner Bros. Studios which produced such classic films as THE JAZZ SINGER 1927 the first feature-length "talkie" LITTLE CAESAR and PUBLIC ENEMY 1931 THE MALTESE FALCON 1941 CASABLANCA 1943 A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE 1951 THE SEARCHERS 1956 MY FAIR LADY 1964 and WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF 1966 as well as innumerable other iconic films. By the time Dalí inscribed this copy in 1954 the two had already known each other for at least a decade. In 1944 Dalí had come to Hollywood to work on the Hitchcock film SPELLBOUND for which the artist contributed a pioneering dream sequence. By 1945 Warner had commissioned Dalí to paint portraits of both Warner and his wife Ann with Dalí actually living with the couple while he completed the works Sperling and Millner 269. This unconventional arrangement in fact led to a now-famous meeting between Dalí and Walt Disney an encounter that resulted in "a lifelong friendship between the man behind the mouse and the painter of melted clocks" Jukareddy. At a dinner party hosted by Warner Dalí and Disney were introduced and hit it off so well they began a collaboration that would eventually result in the production of "Destino" a six-and-a-half-minute surrealist animated film: "Dalí and Disney immediately connected and an overjoyed Dalí accepted Disney's proposal to collaborate on a surrealist animated short. Over the next eight months they created more than 200 storyboard sketches" ibid. A work of myth-making and fame-enhancement as much as anything Dalí's whimsical MUSTACHE finds him and his mustache answering questions "Your mustache looks so rigid - how does it react to the winds of public opinion" with playful responses "She bends" all accompanied by surrealist photographs and photo collages. A close and important association between these two titans with among the most elaborate and exuberant Dalí inscriptions we've seen. Original black-and-white pictorial boards. No jacket as issued. 126 pages. Illustrated throughout with photos of Dalí by Philippe Halsman. Preface by Dalí with a "Postface" by Halsman plus publisher's notes "on how some of the photographs were made." Inscribed in year of publication by Dalí to Jack Warner and his wife Ann across the front pastedown and endpaper: "Pur sic a pun / Prince des Gouts Felines / Jack / ei / Anunshka / L'amour de sur tout / Dalí / Gala / 1954. Roughly: "Purr for the Prince of Feline Tastes Jack and Ann Love above all." Dali has added numerous figures including a crown a shooting star a drawing of two figures dancing in a desert plus three scurrying ants and a moon playing a trumpet overhead. Chipping to head of spine with top centimeter or so of spine beginning to separate but holding. Some toning to endpapers and some starting at gutter before title-page. Housed in a custom clamshell box. Simon and Schuster unknown

The novel gives a vivid and accurate description of Washington DC and is peopled with caricatures of many leading figures of the day including greedy industrialists and corrupt politicians" Britannica. 1882réf. 182650London: B. S. Williams at the Victoria and Paradise Nurseries 1882-97. Orchidelirium First edition of this magnificent work one of the great orchid books of the 19th century. The Orchid Album was published at the height of the "orchidelirium" that had been building in Britain for some decades until it seized the imaginations of late Victorian horticulturists in the same way that the tulip craze inflamed the minds of collectors in Golden Age Holland. The British horticultural writer Anna Pavord notes: "some of the grander Victorian growers such as the Duke of Devonshire at Chatsworth in Derbyshire and the Duke of Northumberland at Syon House in Middlesex employed their own collectors but orchid fanciers like John Day acquired their best treasures at auction. Nurserymen such as James Veitch Conrad Loddiges and Benjamin Samuel Williams of the Victoria and Paradise Nurseries in Upper Holloway regularly sent consignments of orchids to be auctioned by Messrs Stevens of King St Covent Garden. It was in their sale room that after an epic battle with a fellow enthusiast Sir Trevor Lawrence a contemporary of Day's acquired the one single plant of Aerides lawrenciae imported by Frederick Sander from the Philippines". The stunning plates are the work of John Nugent Fitch 1840-1927 the nephew of Walter Hood Fitch. His "work was more flamboyant than that of such predecessors as Ehret Redouté or the Bauer brothers combining botanical accuracy with a flair for page design. In Britain and Europe he had little competition being rivalled only by the Frenchman Alfred Riocreux" ODNB. Bibliographies call for 528 plates but overlook the fact that the only folding plate which appears in Volume I is double-numbered as 9-10. This is a complete set and includes the four-page obituary for Benjamin Samuel Williams in Volume IX. 11 vols 315 x 240 mm. With 527 fine hand-coloured lithograph or chromolithograph plates by John Nugent Fitch one double-numbered folding plate in Vol. I some with tinted backgrounds. Contemporary half dark green morocco spines with raised bands gilt-lettered direct in two compartments gilt floral device in others boards ruled in gilt marbled boards and endpapers marbled endpaper vols. I-IV grey; V-VI dark green VII-IX light blue top edges gilt. Bookplates and shelf marks of Reeves Library Westminster College Missouri gifted by Carl F. Setz. Bindings refurbished small nick to fore edge of vol. V endpapers of vol. VII with minor abrasions with free endpaper detaching but holding and a few minor text repairs starting before title of vol. XI occasional foxing or faint marginal damp staining: a very good copy. Nissen 2107; not in Plesch or Pritzel.
