"WB 1122" Warner Bros written in white ink near the base of the spine. "IMPORTANT! RETURN Story Dept." stamped on the front free end page. This book was used for John Huston's 1948 film adaptation which became one of Warner Bros' most enduring classic films. The names were written when they checked out the book from the vault and upon return the name and date was crossed out. Henry Blanke was one of the film's producers and Vincent Sherman directed the film. Near fine condition. No dustjacket. This book represents the starting point in the chain of events that turned this outstanding novel into one of the most important movies of Hollywood's Golden Age. Director John Huston first read the novel by B. Traven in 1935 and had always thought the material would make a great movie with his father in the main role. Based on a 19th-century ballad by a German poet Traven's book reminded Huston of his own adventures in the Mexican cavalry. B. Traven was the pen name of a presumably novelist whose real name nationality date and place of birth and details of biography are all still subject to dispute. One of the few certainties about Traven's life is that he lived for years in Mexico where the majority of his fiction is also set including The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. unknown

FREE UPGRADE to Courier/Priority Shipping Upon Request - IN STOCK AND IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE FOR SHIPMENT - Flawless copy brand new pristine never opened -- Text in English. 72 pp. With 37 ills. 35 col. . 29 x 30 cm. -- with a bonus offer--; In Bonfires photographer John Duncan documents the long-standing Protestant tradition of bonfire building--part of the annual July 11 celebration commemorating the defeat of James Stuart at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690--in his native Belfast. The large structures on which the fires are lit serve as a powerful assertion of Protestant identity and signal a sense of community solidarity. Duncan's photographs frame these structures against Belfast's changing urban landscape revealing the deep divisions that despite political progress still affect Northern Ireland long after the cease-fires. Duncan's images reveal the expressive jerry-rigged constructions that are lit to create the fires. They recall all manner of real and mythic architecture from high-rise apartment buildings to military watchtowers gun emplacements the Empire State Building or the Tower of Babel. . 2008. 3865217265 .
