1915réf. 5551London United Kingdom: London and North Western Railway 1915. soft. Good. N/A. Publication: London London and North Western Railway 1915 Formatting: 8vo original printed wrappers page count unknown. Condition Report: Good. The original brown paper wrappers remain entirely intact but exhibit expected wear for an ephemeral item of this vintage notably chipping and rubbing along the spine that lightly exposes the stitched binding beneath. The edges of the fragile wrappers show some minor fraying tiny closed tears and light creasing though the cover lettering and the central Britannia emblem remain distinctly bright. The binding holds firm with no evident loose leaves. Internally the pages are remarkably clean free from the heavy oxidation often found in wartime paper stock. There is some mild toning to the extremities an ownership stamp to the first page and a faint contemporary inscription to the upper wrapper. Catalogue Note: An original October 1st 1915 edition of the London & North Western Railway Time Tables published during the height of the First World War. This public timetable is scarce on the open market particularly as ephemeral paper items of this nature were frequently discarded upon the issue of subsequent monthly updates. The text block includes a detailed folding ‘Railway Map of Ireland’ printed by McCorquodale & Co. The timetable features a historically poignant "Special Notice" printed on the preliminary page warning passengers that services may be "curtailed or varied as circumstances require without previous notice" due to the ongoing War reflecting the severe strain on British railway infrastructure during 1915. This copy bears the contemporary ownership inscription and stamp of Arthur A. Williamson dated September 16 1915 slightly prior to the official October commencement. A scarce and fascinating piece of British railway history this October 1915 London & North Western Railway public timetable offers a direct window into domestic travel during the First World War. Complete with a folding railway map of Ireland and wartime travel advisories it serves not only as a comprehensive index of routes and stations but as a tangible artefact of early 20th-century civilian life operating under the shadow of global conflict. An essential addition for any serious collector of railwayana or WW1 ephemera. London and North Western Railway unknown
