1963107 pages. "With the publishing of this volume, Mrs. Simkin's work doubtless will find its place in future anthologies of Canadian verse. Uncomplicated, notably without pessimism, hers is in shart contrast to much poetry of our time... It distils the essence of Maritime practicality and good cheer and blends it with the dauntless optimism so characteristic of those who have known the rigors of Western farm life and have loved and understood the prairie moods, even those that are harsh to the point of cruelty." - from Preface. Includes 105 poems. Illustrated in black and white. Unmarked. Moderate wear and soiling. Binding sound. Nice copy. Book

1985rif. 75203343British Columbia: Mitchell Press 1985. Book. Fine. Hardcover. First Edition. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. 50 pages. Circa mid-1980s. "This is a book of images - fleeting moments in a construction project captured on film. "North East Coal" conjures up many different images: to those who negotiated sales agreements in Canada and Japan there is one set; to those who spent years styding and planning the development other memories come to the fore; to those who worked on the construction projects across northern British Columbia there are other pictures; and to those who live in Tumbler Ridge and work in jobs created by the development yet still another set of images surfaces. We hope that the pages of this book will trigger all these memories." - from foreward. Wonderfully illustrated with colour photography. Negligible wear to clean bright and unmarked book. Three closed tears to attractive dust jacket which bears light wear. Very nice copy. Mitchell Press Hardcover

Much of the work was actually written in the house of noted Oregon pioneer & author Belle W. Cooke who describes how she was “often reading the manuscript to my father and mother for comment.” Victor herself notes after publication that some of the historical facts regarding Marcus Whitman his efforts in the Oregon Country and the massacre orally related to her by Gray needed to have been checked more carefully. 1968rif. 751c7707Vancouver British Columbia Canada: Self-Published 1968. Book. Good. Paperback. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 108 pages. "What I have learned of the logging and loggers has been picked up in the Coast districts of Washington and British Columbia. That I have tried to picture unusual characters amongst loggers and have said little of the unnumbered thousands of fine upstanding many men in the industry is not that I'm unaware of them. The unusual always get more attention. In the Saga I speak from personal knowledge not heresay. And the characters I attempt to picture are not fictitious nor are the incidents in which they are involved." - from author's note to the reader.
