This grammar of the language of the Ngarrindjeri people of the region around Lakes Alexandrina Albert and Coorong was first separately issued in 1878; it was then reprinted in 1879 as an addendum to Taplin's Folklore Manners Customs; and following Taplin's death it was printed again in 1880 with different title page referring to the author as 'the late Rev. 1880réf. 81962Adelaide: E. Spiller Government Printer 1880. Paperback. Very Good. Adelaide E. Spiller Government Printer 1880/ 1878. Octavo 24 pages. Title-wrappers slightly marked and a little dusty; tear to one leaf expertly closed; bottom corner of another leaf a little marked; a very good copy. First published as a separate pamphlet in 1878 it was reissued in 1879 as an addendum to Taplin's 'The Folklore Manners Customs and Languages of the South Australian Aborigines' and reprinted the following year with reset contents page and variant title page. The title page differs in a number of ways: the recently deceased author is now referred to as 'the late'; the Government Printer is E. Spiller not W.C. Cox; the date is 1880 and different fonts have been used. Interestingly we have discovered that both the 1878 and 1880 imprints have been used as addenda to the 1879 book and it is almost certainly another way of determining the status of the original photographs in that work. 1719réf. 45476Lisboa occidental Lisbon: Officina de Pascoal da Sylva. Good. Second Edition. Vellum. 12mo; 19 f 522 & 6 f pages; Text in Portuguese. M. DCCXIX. 1719 "Com todas as licenças necessarias." 12mo. signatures A-Z-12 Aa-10. 19 ff 522 & 6 ff. index. Contemporary limp vellum. Text block very nearly detached from the binding the connection is now dependent on a bit of sewing at the lower headband. Two short clusters of leaves with minor worm tracks. Lacks two leaves -- R2 and almost all of leaf Aa2 of which just an upper corner remains. Rare. Not in OCLC. The author Francisco de Mattos was born in 1636 in Lisbon where he entered the Jesuit order in 1652. He traveled to the Northeast of Brazil to make his noviciate in Bahia -- returned to Portugal where Padre Mattos served as Procurador-general for the S.J. Upon his return to Brazil Padre Mattos became rector of the Jesuit colleges at Rio de Janeiro and Bahia. He became Provincial Professor of the humanities philosophy and theology and died in Bahia in 1720. This rare little book seems to be a second edition of these "meditações". BLPL cites an edition of this title published in 1717 at the printing office Universidade Évora Portugal. Moraes also describes a more substantial work by Padre Francisco de Mattos -- a chronological biography of the founder of his order published the previous year with an imprint identical to our work printed by Pascoal da Sylva in Lisboa occidental. see Vida chronologica de S. Ignacio de Loyola fundador da Companhia de Jesus offerecida ao Illistrissimo Senhor Arcebispo da Bahia . This is a rare contribution to Brazilian literature in every respect save for the formal location in Lisbon of its printer. Printing in Brazil did not begin formally for nearly another 90 years after this little volume was printed. . 1719. Officina de Pascoal da Sylva hardcover

Morganton NC: Published Periodically in the interest of the Morganton Missions by the Rev. George Hilton B.A. L.Th. Durham England Priest-in-Charge 1917. First Edition. Octavo bifolium 26.5x17.25cm; photographs of the St. Margaret's Day School and of a "Mountain home." Light rubbing and wrinkling; horizontal mail folds; overall Very Good and sound. An unrecorded leaflet relaying news on the Cotton Mill Workers Mission The Mountain Missions and the St. Stephen's colored Mission in and around Morganton North Carolina. The newsletter touches upon World War I acknowledging the need to for Belgian Armenian and Syrian relief funds though cautioning that the work of the Red Cross should not displace support for the Mission. The St. Stephen's Colored Mission is in want of a "colored worker" to lead it and here gives updates on the ongoing search for one. The isolated mountain communities also remain in search of a school teacher after Miss Kilburn had to depart apparently leaving the local schoolchildren "awful lonesome." A rare look into a small but determined community; we find no record of this publication in retail auction records or institutional holdings. Published Periodically in the interest of the Morganton Missions by the Rev. George Hilton, B.A., L.Th., (Durham, England) Pries unknown
