"In these days of high tension both international and personal the need for better understanding among people of all countries all races and all creeds is greater than ever before in the history of the world. An increased spirit of brotherhood predicated on a clearer concept of the religious beliefs of others could well result in a new appreciation of their tenets thereby creating an attitude of respect which is frequently lacking today both in business and in political contacts." - Foreword from Days And Customs Of All Faiths Fleet Publishing Corporation hardcover

2013réf. FL-JB2C-E9KV2013 G2 Entertainment paperback edition. Some reading wear and creasing else good condition. Signed by the author. From the cover: Today there are spectacular walks along Cefn Gwyngul above Pontypridd and Mountain Ash. You can visit Llanwynno the focus of this delightful illustrated memoir and admire its glades ancient church and excellent pub the Brynfinnon Arms. When the clergyman and poet William Thomas 'Glanffrwd' wrote about Llanwynno in the 1880s he was describing a largely agricultural and Welsh-speaking district full of deeply held beliefs hallowed customs and odd characters - some of whom were born in the 1700s. So this fine adaptation of his work by Alan Meats himself a retired vicar and teacher spans two centuries and more. The author describes in poetic terms a Glamorgan of great beauty slowly being tarnished by the tide of men and machines tainting the air streams and fields with coal dust and the roar of steam engines. Happily for us today reading Llanwynno - A Treasury of Memories is as refreshing as the now cleansed and purified air of the Rhondda. The industrial revolution has come full circle and though people have spread across the valleys their hearts are Welsh and many of them are doubtless descended from the carnival of characters featured in this work - which is rich in history entertaining and Welsh to its core. CONTENTS: 1 - Llanwynno and its surroundings 2 - The hills 3 - Ynysbwl the village and some of its characters 4 - The search for coal and lime 5 - Old customs 6 - Around the Ffrwd river 7 - Hunting 8 - Ynysbwl Fair 9 - The Lan and Gelli-Lwch 10 - From the top of Graigwen 11 - The Cynon Valley 12 - Troedrhiwtrwyn and Guto Nyth Bran 13 - Pontypridd and some notable characters 14 - Cwm Clydach and Sian Phylip 15 - Spirits of the parish 16 - More spirits 17 - Spirits at the Maltsters and the Pandy 18 - Old ruins 19 - Old sayings 20 - Old characters 21 - Characters of Pontypridd 22 - Pwllhywel and the Mormon faith 23 - Tommy Penwal 24 - The Glog huntsmen 25 - St Gwynno's Church 26 - Old workings 27 - Springs and wells 28 - More springs 29 - The Old Chapel G2 Entertainment Ltd paperback
