ABOUT THIS BOOK: If Moses Jesus and the Prophet Muhammad were to meet what would they tell one another about Judaism Christianity and Islam Three of today's leading scholars explore the topics such a conversation might entail in this comparative study of the three monotheistic faiths. In systematic side-by-side descriptions they detail the classical theologies of Judaism Christianity and Islam and the authoritative writings that convey those theologies-Torah Bible and Qur' n. They then compare and contrast the three faiths which though distinct and autonomous address a common set of issues. While asserting that this book is by no means a background source for issues and conflicts among contemporary followers of Judaism Christianity and Islam the authors nevertheless aspire to reveal among the three a common potential for mutual understanding. A compact but ambitious introduction to English law designed for a wide readership extending from university students to attorneys' clerks and the "privately educated." Characteristic of Jacob's practical and commercial sensibility the work distills foundational doctrines terminology and maxims into an accessible format; it proved enduringly popular reaching eleven subsequent editions by 1792. It belongs with his other successful efforts to democratize legal knowledge including The Common Law Common-Placed 1726 and Every Man His Own Lawyer 1736. From the library of the Barons Sandys second and third creations housed at Ombersley Court Worcestershire-one of the notable country-house libraries of England. The original owner was likely Samuel Sandys 1st Baron Sandys 1695-1770 Whig politician Chancellor of the Exchequer and Justice in Eyre. Though not formally trained in the law Sandys occupied offices in which a practical command of legal principles was advantageous making a manual of this kind entirely apposite. 2018ref. 2347210Dalcassian Publishing Company 2018. Reissue. Hard Cover. Fine/No Jacket. 6x0x9. Reissue. Brand new from publisher. 2018 Hard Cover. 324 pp. Based on the 1928 translation of Rev. Montague Summers edited by D.P. Curtin. Woodcut illustrations reproduced from the 1626 Compendium Maleficarum. A treatise on the prosecution of witches or at least those accused of witchcraft written by a German Catholic clergyman named Heinrich Kramer but rejected by the clergy at the University of Cologne. The common English translation of the title is The Hammer of Witches. A posthumous author credit has been given to Jakob Sprenger though there is cause to believe this is an erroneous attribution. Whatever the case its publication exacerbated the proliferation of witch trials over the next two centuries and its advocacy of torture and deception to obtain convictions in these trials is partly responsible for the frequently brutal nature of inquiries and punishments.
