All'inizio degli anni '70 quando Jacob Holdt arrivò per la prima volta negli Stati Uniti con 40 dollari in tasca pianificò di viaggiare rapidamente attraverso il paese fino al Sud America. Ma totalmente scioccato e affascinato da ciò che scopriva vi rimase cinque anni. La sua famiglia riusciva a malapena a credere alle lettere che inviava loro in dettaglio sulla povertà che vedeva così suo padre gli mandò una telecamera amatoriale economica in modo che potesse inviare a casa qualche video che provasse i suoi racconti. Vivendo come un vagabondo vendendo il suo sangue due volte a settimana facendo l'autostop per oltre 100.000 miglia ha restituito un ritratto incredibile e unico dell'America e del suo sottoproletariato. Faceva amicizia con chiunque gli offrisse un passaggio in macchina e spesso un passaggio diventava un'offerta per qualche giorno. Non ha mai detto di no e ha finito per visitare più di 350 case dove ha fotografato le persone con cui viveva: poveri neri dei ghetti milionari drogati membri del Ku Klux Klan. Le immagini di Holdts fanno eco alle immagini della F.S.A. e insieme al lavoro di un altro danese Jacob Riis. Joseph Jakob von Plenck's 'Doctrina de morbis veneris' 1779 is the venereology counterpart to his famous 'Doctrina de morbis cutaneis' and one of the earliest systematic Latin handbooks devoted specifically to venereal diseases written from the perspective of an 18th-century Vienna-based clinician. It is important because it applies an Enlightenment-era classificatory and nosological framework to venereal diseases at a time when "morbus gallicus" and related conditions were still conceptually fluid. By systematizing syphilis gonorrhoea and other venereal affections into defined classes and species he helped move venereology from a predominantly empirical-practical art toward a more theoretically ordered branch of special pathology parallel to what he achieved for skin diseases. In the broader history of dermatology the 1779 first edition stands as an early link between cutaneous medicine and venereology in Central Europe foreshadowing the later 19th-century fusion of "Haut- und Geschlechtskrankheiten" as a combined specialty. Joseph Jakob von Plenck 1738/1735-1807 was a Hungarian-born physician who became professor in Vienna and is often named as the founder of Austrian dermatology. An important first edition of Jacob Grimm's seminal study of Teutonic and Norse mythology superstition and magic. Complete in itself; a second volume was issued nearly twenty years later in 1854. Die Adressatin "Madame Furtado" war Rose Fould 1800-1871 die Frau des französischen Bankiers Élie Furtado 1796-1867 der später als Finanzminister unter Napoleon III. Berühmtheit erlangte und war die Mutter von Cécile Furtado-Heine 1821-1896. Landré-Beauvais schreibt über ihren erkrankten Bruder Achille Fould 1800-1867 während der großen Cholera-Epidemie in Paris: " J'ai revu Madame il y a quelques jours monsieur votre frère. Je crains que sa santé n'exige encore de grands soins. Je n'ai pas insisté sur un voyage dans le midi ou l'on assuré que le cholera a déjà pénétré. Ce ne sera qu'au mois de septembre que l'on devra se décider sur l'opportunité d'aller faire un troisième voyage durant l'hiver dans un climat plus chaud. J'espère d'ailleurs le voir bientôt ayant moi-même quelques renseignemens à lui demander sur les voyages en Provence ou en Italie.
