1874réf. BB2328Amsterdam: G. Theod. Bom 1874. Pictorial Wrappers. Fine. Crown 8vo 180 x 128mm: 8pp with six color lithographs printed by Emrik & Binger Haarlem each with flaps that when flipped reveal a completely different image a ship at sea becomes Bedouins in the desert a volcano erupts into walruses in the Arctic Native Americans transform into explorers in the Rockies taking the viewer on a tour around the world. The accompanying text guides the reader through these twists and turns. Original burnt orange illustrated card wrappers printed in green gold and terracotta and lettered in black. A superbly preserved example of this fragile production all but pristine rare with Worldcat Discovery listing only one copy and LHD none. For more than 700 years book designers have been pushing back the boundaries of the two-dimensional page adding flaps and rotating parts to enhance the text most often in scientific literature. But only in the nineteenth century did movable flaps became a regular feature in childrens books. In the Netherlands De nieuwe rijschool The new riding school published in 1856 was the first movable childrens book which reached their peak in the 1870s and 1880s. Gerardus Theodorus Bom 1814-1884 was a Dutch publisher of books in Amsterdam issuing such titles as Kindervreugd 1864 Robinson Crusoë c.1865 and Kunstenmakers at work 1875. Andriessen's first books were published under the pseudonym Pieter Jacobsz. Under his own name he wrote a series of romantic stories for young people mainly derived from Dutch national history. N. B. 1926réf. 74065New York: George H. Doran Company 1926. First Thus. Leather bound. Near fine. The trade edition of this illustrated classic from Kay Nielsen with 22 full-page plates 12 in color. The fairy tales include the title story Rapunzel Rumpelstiltskin and nineteen others. Nielsen 1886–1957 was born in Denmark. He is best known for his work in the United States. He worked for the Walt Disney Company on the animated films Fantasia The Little Mermaid and Sleeping Beauty. xii 13–310 pages. First trade edition first printing with the B date code on the copyright page. A near fine copy; for this version the plates are not protected with tissue guards and there is offsetting to the facing pages as a result. There are a couple of leaves with spots at the bottom margin. This copy has been rebound in full burgundy morocco with all edges gilt. The covers are delicately decorated with a wavy gilt border. The spine is divided into six panels with false bands; each panel is stamped in gilt. The endpapers are marbled paper with metallic gold ink highlights. The original cover and spine are laid down at the back. Doran issued a 600-copy signed limited edition in 1925 with the text printed in two colors contemporaneous with the UK signed limited. That is the first US edition; this trade issue followed the next year based on newspaper reviews and therefore I assume does not have the publisher's logo on the copyright page—which is how Doran usually denotes a first printing. It is not technically the first edition. George H. Doran Company unknown

réf. 69724Bruxelles Société Typografique Belge; Leipzig Wahlen 1842. Two lithographed broadsides 91.0 x 54.5 cm and 88.0 x 54.5 cm. = A fine and rare work by the French medical doctor Jean-Baptiste Marc Bourgery 1797-1849 and the French painter and lithographer Nicolas Henri Jacob 1782-1871 both better known from their later published Traité complet de l'anatomie de l'homme comprenant l'anatomie chirurgicale et la médecine opératoire. The current work fully titled Anatomie élémentaire en 20 planches avec un texte explicatif à part formant un manuel complet d'anatomie physiologique consists of a series of twenty very large anatomical plates and an additional small explanatory textbook here not included. From this suite these are two matching plates namely Planche 3 Myologie et Aponévrologie - Plan anterieur or muscles and nerves frontal and Planche 5 Myologie Aponévrologie or muscles and blood vessels seen dorsally. These two plates obviously form a pair as the view is identical and the subjects are closely related. A few skilful repairs. Since these plates were meant to be used in medical schools and hospitals they are usually found well-used with spotting creasing chipping annotations stamps etc. but this set is unusually clean and bright. Very rare in this fine condition.

Burroughs Allen Ginsberg Herbert Huncke and Claude Pelieu. At the time of publication Jacob Herman was Lawrence Ferlinghetti's assistant and worked alongside him at what was the epicenter of literary counterculture in San Francisco the City Lights Bookshop. The San Francisco Earthquake published many of the writers which had a connection with the store. William Burroughs contributed to all five issues. In the first his piece 'Word Authority More Habit Forming than Heroin' explores his belief that language operates as a form of social control. What follows his introduction is an experimental piece of prose interspersed with grammatical symbols which criticises police brutality and nuclear weapons.Published towards the end of the 1960s this counterculture production bridges the gap between the different movements of the Beats Post-Beats and Fluxus writers. The magazine also served as a literary and artistic meeting point; collages by Carl Weissner are reproduced in the broadsheets and Roy Lichtenstein a leading figure in the pop-art movement designed the covers for issues No. 3 and No. 4. unknown
