Ephraim Moses Pinner was a 19th century German Talmudist and archeologist. His first work published in 1831 the "Kizzur Talmud Yerushalmi V'Talmud Babli" was a translation of sections of both the Jerusalem and Babylonian Talmuds. This was the beginning of his larger project to produce a translation of the entire Talmud. Pinner's work took him to libraries across Eastern Europe. He even secured the aid of the anti-Jewish Czar Nicholas I and dedicated the translation to him. Only the first of the proposed 28 volumes was ever published. Besides for securing sponsorships from royalty across European Pinner gained letters of approbation from several rabbis none of whom lived in Russia. This was down apparently through some trickery on Pinner's part. Published by the author hardcover books

A clean copy within. A scarce and odd production consisting of vocal songs both sacred and secular the majority with music composed by Le Sears as well as dance tunes by Sears his family relations and others. Many bear local dedications e.g. Sears' "Trenton Waltz. Dedicated to Sarah L. Roberts of Trenton N.J." Moore's compositions are here and there dated from 1835 on but none of his music seems to have been heretofore published. The volume is a cheap-paper production and the pagination jumps from 46 to 65 apparently as issued as no tunes in the index are called for on the ommitted pages. An unnumbered leaf between pages 46 and 64 contains a song not included in the index. Sears' name does not appear on the title page but is barely discernible on the front and rear board. Despite the publisher's notice that "The author of this work has in preparation "The American Centennial" which will be published in 1876" no further volume was issued. The OCLC entry lists 4 copies but has a variant imprint with Moore's name only. Moore, Shissler, & Co. hardcover books

Signature of the late Leon J. Leibreich the influential Professor of Theology at Hebrew Union College who has a prize for liturgy endowed in his name on title page. Minor age wear to exterior. Binding has been expertly reinforced with green binder's tape along front endpapers. Book is in very good condition. Judah ben David Hayyuj c. 945 - 1000 was a Spanish-Jewish grammarian. His thorough knowledge of Arabic grammatical literature led him to apply to the Hebrew grammar the theories elaborated by Arabic grammarians and thus to become the founder of the scientific study of that discipline. The preceding scholars had found the greatest difficulty in accounting by the laws of Hebrew morphology for the divergences existing between the regular or so-called "strong" verbs and the "weak" verbs. A hopeless confusion appeared to reign here in Hebrew; and much ingenuity was spent in endeavoring to discover the principles that controlled the conjugation of the verbs. To substantiate his theories he wrote the treatises upon which his reputation chiefly rests the Kitab al-Af'al Dhawat Huruf al-Lin The Book of Verbs Containing Weak Letters and Kitab al-Af'al Dhawat al-Mathalain The Book of Verbs Containing Double Letters which comprise this particular book.
