2009réf. 363121New York: W.W. Norton & Company 2009. First Edition. Hardcover. As New/As New. 4to 11" - 13" tall. R. Crumb. Signed by Illustrator. Fine-looking structurally sound hardcover little discernible wear to the black cloth over boards sharp and distinct lettering including Old English font-rendered to front cover and spine. Bright interior unmarked. Bright and shiny dust jacket illustrated and wildly colorful little worn. The text-box at front cover promises: "Nothing Left Out!" Nothing Not one thing Awesome! It had better not have. The illustrator the inimitable R. Crumb and his wife aver that completion of the illustrations of this edition of the book the first book of the Old Testament the one with many anonymous authors took over four years. His wife Aline brought him baskets of food to the shepherd's hut in the south of France in which he lived for the duration. After "playing around" with a satirical "send-up" of the book he decided to "play it straight" instead. The result is a SIGNED and DATED copy adjacent to the publisher's logo of The Book of Genesis. 224 pp. with black-and-white illustrations galore. Published by W.W. Norton & Company in October 2009. Stated First Edition First Printing. Covers Creation to the Death of Joseph in 50 chapters illustrating in a word-for-word line-by-line chapter-by-chapter manner in an oddly counterintuitively straightforward manner. At book's end is extended commentary on each chapter and how he approached its rendering. Assembled mostly says Crumb from Robert Allen's translation of the Hebrew and from the King James bible. The serpent in Eden a reptile looks humanoid. Jacob becomes a character a "kind of depressed guy who doesn’t strike you as physically courageous." Abraham’s wife Sarai appears fetching at 90. Their "slave girl" is rendered as a "handmaid." Hmmm . . . God appears "a standard Charlton Heston-like figure with long white hair and a flowing beard." Long Introduction by R. Crumb. He writes: "the stories of these people the Hebrews were something more than just stories. They were the foundation the source in writing of religious and political power handed down by God himself."Member I.O.B.A. C.B.A. and adherent to the highest ethical standards. The institute was the first of its kind in the world when it was founded in 1906 and through its existence it gained much considerable relevance for the international emergence of a modern history of science and the source-based cultural studies. The institute was overseen by Karl Sudhoff the most important historian of medicine of the 20th century as was the annexed library that contained a high number of volumes sent and sometimes even dedicated to him personally. After Sudhoff's death in 1938 the institute was renamed to Karl-Sudhoff-Institut in honour of his achievements. All books from this library offered by us about 2.500 were properly withdrawn from the Leipzig University Libraries holdings and bear corresponding marks such as handwritten signatures on spines stamps on titlepages or fly leaves.
