Crumb and his wife aver that completion of the illustrations of this edition of the book the first book of the Old Testament the one with many anonymous authors took over four years. His wife Aline brought him baskets of food to the shepherd's hut in the south of France in which he lived for the duration. After "playing around" with a satirical "send-up" of the book he decided to "play it straight" instead.
