Part II has 15 etchings by Coenraad Decker. Little foxing good copy. Prose translation prozavertaling of the complete works of Ovid and more because some poems are now known not to be Ovids. The works are arranged in the usual chronological order: first the heroines letters Heldinnenbrieven and erotic poetry erotische poezie then the metamorphoses illustrated with 15 engravings by C Decker and in part III the incomplete calendar only six of the 12 months and mourning songs and letters from the Black Sea. These last two titles were written by Ovid while he was in exile. The translator Abraham Valentijn 1640 after 1697 was preceptor and rector at the Latin School in Dordrecht and from 1681 also the librarian for the Dordrecht city library. In his dedication to Mayor Adriaan van Blyenborch he blames previous Ovid translators that they had not studied Greek historians and poets enough thus op tallijke blinde klippen gestooten sijn which means that they had a lot of difficulties translating. The 15 prints by Decker for the first edition of Valentijns translation which appeared at Daniel Gaasbeeck at Leiden are only a small part of the originally intended prints. When you read the message to the binder in the back youll see that there was another set of prints 124 pieces! that could have been bound with the Metamorphoses. The translation by Valentijn was followed by a third edition this time with notes by the Amsterdam based physician and literary Ludolf Smids. ZKL0060 unknown

Megerle gained great fame thanks to his sermons. The outbreak of the plague as well as the siege of Vienna by the Turks led him to preach not only in church but also through print.''s Waerelds mooi -en leelykheid' is the first Dutch translation of 'Huy! und Pfuy! der Welt' 1707. 25123Charles II on his way back to the throne: a lavishly illustrated contemporary account of his triumphant 1660 journey through Holland and departure from Scheveningen for England marking the dramatic beginning of the Restoration. An important and lavishly illustrated contemporary account of Charles IIs celebrated visit to the Dutch Republic in May 1660 immediately before his restoration to the English throne. After years of exile on the Continent Charles travelled from Breda through the Dutch Republic to Scheveningen from where he embarked for England. His departure marked the dramatic conclusion of the English Interregnum and the beginning of the Restoration monarchy. The work records the elaborate receptions banquets processions and ceremonies organised in Charless honour. Particularly important are the six large engravings documenting events at Delft The Hague and Scheveningen. They provide a vivid visual record of the political theatre surrounding the Restoration and of the crucial Dutch role in Charles IIs return to power. The contemporary vellum binding and the presence of the separately published celebratory poem Anglia triumphans make this an especially attractive historical ensemble.Folio. 4 108 pp. Contemporary full vellum. réf. 59238Abraham Heidanus Frankenthal 1597-Leiden 1678 minister and from 1648 professor in Leiden; moderate but convinced Certasian. In this book which would be the reason of his discharge as professor he opposes the '20 posities' imposed by the trustees of the University and the Burgomaster of Leiden on which it was forbidden to lecture. These forbidden positions included the works by Coccejus Wittichius Cartesius Von Wolzogen: the last 'position' reads that philosophy is an explainer of the Word of God. Very rare. Only 6 copies of the first edition held in Dutch libraries.NL De auteur Abraham Heidanus was predikant en tot 1676 professor in Leiden.
