Based largely on the Auburn Prison System its members sought to advocate for better conditions in prisons and more humane treatment of prisoners by publishing facts and statistics on prisons gathered through annual visits. It quickly became the leading prison reform organization in the country and was largely responsible for the growth in popularity of the Auburn System. It dissolved on Dwight's death in 1854. unknown books
