In about 1908 he became interested in Chinese art; R. L. Hobson recognized the importance of his collection. In 1916 he changed his name to Rutherston. After his death his collection was shown for seven years at the V&A 19 pieces were lent to the Royal Academy International Exhibition of Chinese Art 1935-1936. He also collected western art and donated paintings to the National Gallery and 19th century prints to the British Museum. He collected modern paintings drawings and prints mostly works by members of the New English Art Club and gave most his modern works to Manchester Art Gallery in 1925. Faith Ashford 1884-1967 was a lecturer at the University of Reading’s School of Art and a founding member of the Reading Guild of Artists. Hilary "Harry" Douglas Clark Pepler 1878–1951 was an English printer writer and poet. He was an associate of both Eric Gill and G. K. Chesterton working on publications in which they had an interest. He was also a founder with Gill and Desmond Chute in 1920 of a Catholic community of craftsmen at Ditchling Sussex called The Guild of St Joseph and St Dominic. In 1915 Pepler moved to Ditchling where Gill had set up a commune of religious artists and artisans. There he founded St. Dominic's Press with the intention of printing books “about crafts which machinery threatened with extinction.” It published among other books works of James Joyce George Bernard Shaw John Drinkwater Augustus John Chesterton and John Collier. He became a Catholic convert in 1916 and joined the Dominicans as a lay member in 1918. At that time he changed his name to Hilary. Financial quarrels between Pepler and Gill may have led to Gill leaving the Ditchling group in 1924. Pepler was forced to leave the Guild in 1934. St. Dominic's Press unknown
