1904Best.-Nr. 16809Washington DC: United Sates Land Office 1904. Document. Very good. Folio Document measuring 10.5" x 16"; Partly printed document with red embossed seal of the General Land Office at bottom left signed by President Theodore Roosevelt lower right Secretarial Signature Washington D. C. June 3 1904. A Land Grant Of Federal Lands To The Santa Fe Pacific Railroad Company. This land a forty acre parcel east of Gila & Salt River Meridian Arizona Territory as part of the Grand Canyon Forest Preserve owned by the SFRR is being exchanged with the United States for a forty acre parcel east of the Mount Diablo Meridian in California. This "swap" was for land east of San Francisco Bay for a parcel near Phoenix Az. Also signed by a F. McKean Secretary & C. H. Brush Recorder of the Land Office. An unusual land grant. There was a controversy in 1902 regarding these exchanges. The Railroad wanted to consolidate its lands and wished to trade uneven numbered parcels for even numbered ones. Their argument was that this would benefit all. Some members of TR's cabinet were opposed but the argument that grazing lands Arizona could not be parceled out if they were not contiguous won the day and the exchanges were executed. This is a simplification of the event and there were other arguments. This document is a vestige of this series of exchanges. United Sates Land Office unknown

1984Best.-Nr. SBBI-mon0000145316Catholic Truth Society 1984. paperback. Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing fanning inscriptions margin notes yellowing staining on edge or cover or pages bumps scuffs etc etc sometimes multiple of these. It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order at least not without checking with us first although we don't always have time to check. 1966Best.-Nr. acs946New York: Holt Rinehart Winston 1966. First Edition stated. Signed and inscribed by the Author. Octavo gray cloth hardcover lavender endpapers 191 pp. Very Good with light foxing age darkened spotting in a Very Good mylar protected dust jacket with edgewear. From dust jacket: Seven decisive days in the life of a young clergyman are powerfully and dramatically chronicled in Faith Baldwin’s story of an intelligent young man torn between the ministry and medicine. Assistant Pastor in a Protestant church Ira Stevens doubts his calling to the ministry; as his life unfolds pleasantly enough in a small New England town he is plagued by the loneliness of indecision and by an increasing sense of isolation -- from his work and from his own desires. He wonders if he should return to the medical training he once found so rewarding. In a week filled with introspection bewilderment and intense activity Ira seeks an answer his objectivity confused by his deep troublesome involvement with one woman and by his affection for another. He must of course tend to his parishioners as usual among them Mrs. Armstrong who flaunts a menacing grip on the parish and Ella Downing whose lonely existence masks a tragic secret. As Ira touches extremes of joy misery tenderness and even violence in these lives he also confronts -- and accepts -- surprising elements in his own nature. At the end of seven days he has made a final decision. Holt, Rinehart Winston, 1966. First Edition, stated. hardcover books
