Roberts was the 17th Governor of Texas and this promotional book about the state was published while he was still in office. Clark Travels in the New South I:185: "Roberts.had traveled over the state as a lawyer 1841-60 and after the war had settled down and taught law. Light blue cloth gold stamping on front cover and spine 181 pp. "Anecdotes and sketches of Texas cowboys Rangers sheriffs wild cattle wild horses and gun and game. Written by a native Texan from the experiences of over fifty years in the Lone Star state." . from the text. Six Guns 1615 says "A little-known book containing some stories of Texas bad men. The author tells one incident about Billy the kid I have not seen elsewhere." Herd 1675 says "Scarce." Good firsthand account of ranching in Pearsall and Frio County and South Texas wild game and hunting. The author was a San Patricio County justice of the peace and his stories include names places and dates. Old bump to two front corners covers lightly used else a good copy of a scarce item.
