1773réf. AQ35986Edinburgh: s.n. 1773. 2 18pp. Modern green cloth calf lettering piece. A trifle dusty. The second edition published anonymously of a short tract addressing the growing avarice of Highland landlords and the resulting mass migration of Highlanders to England and the English colonies. Dedicated to English Lieutenant-General Sir James Adolphus Oughton 1720-1780 'who has been pleased to discover a particular Attachment to the Highlands of Scotland' the work presents a picture of a discontented nation: 'their lands are rented at such a price and raised to such a pitch that they plainly see it is impossible to support the burden laid upon them.the spirit of emigration is once begun and is spreading fast'. All editions are scarce; this variant of the second edition with beaded rather than straight-line rules on the title page is no exception; ESTC records copies at just five locations in the British Isles Advocates BL Glasgow NLS and NMS and just three further in North America California NYPL and Kansas.
