2014New English Paperback. Pbo. Mint. Roy. 8vo. (23 x 16 cm). In Turkish. 534 p. A study on Armenian deportation in 1915. Ermenilerin Golgothasi. Translated by Ali Çakiroglu.
2005[Utah Series In Turkish And Islamic Studies ] In 1915, the Ottoman government, then run by the Young Turks, deported most of its Armenian citizens from their eastern Anatolian lands. According to reliable estimates, close to forty percent of the prewar population perished, many in brutal massacres. Armenians call it the first genocide of the twentieth century. Turks speak of an instance of intercommunal warfare and wartime relocation made necessary by the treasonous conduct of their Armenian minority. The voluminous literature on this tragic episode of World War I is characterized by acrimony and distortion in which both sides have simplified a complex historical reality and have resorted to partisan special pleading. The Armenian Massacres in Ottoman Turkey examines the rich historical evidence without political preconceptions. Relying on archival materials as well as eye-witness testimony, Guenter Lewy avoids the sterile "was-it-genocide-or-not" debate and presents a detailed account of what actually happened. The result is a book that will open a new chapter in this contentious controversy and may help achieve a long-overdue reconciliation of Armenians and Turks. 370p. bibligraphy.index Book

Armenian architects of Istanbul in the Era of Westernization.= Batililasan Istanbul'un Ermeni mimarlari. In the era of Westernization, also known as Ottoman Modernization, that took place throughout the entire 19th century and in the early 20th century, transformed the physical appearance of Istanbul. First and foremost the Balians, but also other Armenian architects such as Ohannes Serverian, Mgrdich Charkian, Bedros Nemtze, Mihran Azarian, Hovsep Aznavur, Levon Gureghian, the brothers Aram and Isaac Karakash, Kegham Kavafian, Yetvart Terziyan, Andon and Garabed Tulbendjian, who in earlier periods received their initial training within the industry, but later also graduated from schools in European countries, and ultimately graduated from the School of Fine Arts, played a great role in this transformation. This book is prepared to introduce the Armenian architects who contributed to Istanbul's architectural richness with their works and is the first attempt of its kind. We hope that it will inspire the academic studies in the field to be carried out in the future. The books published in Turkish-English and Armenian-English includes 6 articles written by Edhem Eldem, Afife Batur, Ahmet Ersoy, Alyson Wharton, Elmon Hançer and Lora Baytar; each article has a different approach to the architecture of Istanbul. Moreover, in the book there are more than 100 photos of the architectural structures built by the Armenian architects.
