1924Best.-Nr. 1415London: George Newnes 1924. 1st UK 1st impression thus. Hardback. Very good. Thomas Henry. This is a scarce and very hard to find book from 1924 the first in the Elizabeth series. Previously published in 1920 by Thornton Butterworth. The Victoria and Albert Museum London holds a 1932 dust jacket from a later novel in the series. Thomas Henry was a renowned British illustrator chiefly known for his work on the jackets of the Just William series. His style also lent itself later to highly collectable saucy seaside postcards much loved for their risqué double-entendres somehow tolerated - perhaps encouraged - by the sea air. There is some foxing mainly to text block edges but also intruding to some pages. No jacket. Spine is a little pushed in places. George Newnes unknown
