"The greatest single factor in promoting lasting and ever-increasing relationships may be obtained only through an unusually comprehensive and alert public relations program aimed at every facet of news dissemination including newspapers magazines radio advertising exploitation books motion pictures newsreels visual exhibits and speaking engagements." The document goes on to outline such a plan which includes encouraging and promoting travel to Brazil by Americans teaching Portuguese in schools to encourage relations as well as using sports figures agriculture aviation and movies to promote a cross-pollination of the two nations. The second piece is a collection of reproduced articles on Francisco Pignatari a young Brazilian playboy and industrialist. ****************** New York, Alfred Kren Gallery, 1985. One and only edition. In English. Large brochure of 25.5 x 18 cm. Unpaginated. Catalogue of an exhibition held at the Alfred Kren Gallery in New York about the ex-votos of the Brazilian Northeast, e.g. sculptures made to be given to a saint, to the Virgin, etc. in gratitude for a prayer or a wish granted. In black and white, contains photos of 54 ex-votos as well as other photographs. Texts by Fatima Bercht, photos by Glenn Steigelman and Giovanna and Francesco Del Brenna. Enriched with a letter in Portuguese signed by the gallery owner Alfred Kren, who asks a Brazilian bookseller about the viability of a sale of several copies of this brochure in Brazil. While Kren expresses doubts, fearing that the retail price in the United States will turn into "an exorbitant amount of Brazilian cruzeiros" once the booklets get exported, he likes the idea enough to send this copy as a gift to the recipient of the letter.
