The foldout frontis piece to Jeremiah Reynolds: "Voyage of the United States frigate Potomac" New York: Harper & Brothers 1835. John Searle 1783-1837 was a painter of English descent lived in New York and Calcutta before settling in Valparaiso where he was an extremely popular painter. "One of his watercolors was brought to the lithographic printing press in the United States by Harper and Brothers New York 'View of the Harbor and Town of Valparaiso' and illustrates the stay in the bay of the Potomac frigate whose elegant profile stands out on the relief of the coast. It is a beautiful work that demonstrates the pictorial quality of the work of John Searle" Eugenio Pereira Salas: Estudios sobre la historia del arte en Chile republicano. 1882réf. 0477Paris, A. Degorge-Cadot, 1882.
