His daily record comments on beatings, thefts, marital relations, wages and prices. "Extensive appendices furnish a complete list of all the ships which carried prisoners to Australia, with the names of their masters and surgeons, their departure and arrival dates and the number of prisoners each carried. This work is accepted by historians and scholars as the standard work on its subject. Through the reading of over six hundred journals of surgeons employed in the convict ships to Australia, the author has been able to add much additional detail to this little-known field of maritime history. This greatly enlarged edition provides much new material." - dust jacket. Moderate wear to unmarked book. Moderate soiling to top and fore-edges. Binding tight.
