Each engraving is characterized by a motto above the image, and by emblematic verses (in Latin or German). The work is a combination of two then-popular genres, the book of coats of arms and the "Town Book". Among the master engravers and illuminators who contributed to this series are Matthäus Merian, Sebastian Furck, Christian Stimmer, and perhaps Meisner himself, who conceived the work and contributed much of the prose. Copperplate engraving, with margins, in perfect condition. Cremonini pagg. 57/58, 45a.

Map from the very rare “Anfiteatro d’Europa” published in Venice in 1623. The book was written by Giovanni Doglioni and it was published by the Venetian Giacomo Sarzina. Together with the text there are one world map and 33 maps of Europe. Oddly enough, these maps were realized after those shown in Ortelius Epitome, engraved by Philip Galle, and not after the pirate edition published by Pietro Marchetti in Venice. These are therefore new plates, presenting minor differences with those of Marchetti. The work has never been reissued and is quite rare. Copper engraving, included in the text page which described the map, wormholes, otherwise in good condition. G. L. King, Miniature Antique Maps, p. 106.

Orazio Torsellini (1545-1599), gesuita italiano, storico e letterato. Rif.: IT\ICCU\TO0E\151723 (4 copie). OCLC, 173203570 (1 copia in USA e 1 copia in UK). -- Eighteenth-century edition that resumes that of 1597, of this rare work, very interesting for the local history of Loreto and for the cult of Our Lady of Loreto [The Holy House].
