2005Best.-Nr. 16460021 April 2005. The marriage of Charles and Camilla The future King and Queen write to Tom Burnard Facilities Officer at the Guildhall in Windsor thanking him for his work on their wedding which he helped host 12 days earlier. Charles writes "Dear Mr. Bernard My wife and I wanted to write and express our heartfelt gratitude for your invaluable contribution to our wedding in Windsor on 9th April. The whole event would simply not have been possible had it not been for the extraordinary team of people with all their various skills and attributes who worked so hard and such long hours - not least when we had to defer the wedding from Friday to Saturday - to make the day the truly happy and uniquely memorable occasion that it was for us both and for all our guests. The seamless way in which everything worked to such perfection will be a permanent tribute to your professionalism and commitment alongside that of everyone else involved. This comes with our warmest best wishes and immense appreciation. Yours most sincerely Charles and Camilla". The wedding of Charles and Camilla was a deliberately low-key affair in the comparatively modest setting of Windsor Guildhall. It was the first time a member of the royal family married in a civil ceremony to avoid controversy over Camilla's previous divorce if a Church of England wedding was held and also likely reflecting concern over public hostility to Camilla in the aftermath of the breakdown of Charles and Diana's marriage. The wedding was delayed 24 hours - as the letter mentions - due to the funeral of Pope John Paul II. Typed letter 234 x 186 mm on stationery of the couple's Birkhall estate. With original envelope. Original folding creases from insertion into envelope and light handling creasing envelope roughly opened; in very good condition. unknown

1916Best.-Nr. C100306Philadelphia: N.l. Brown 1916. First Edition. Wraps. Paperback . Very Good. First Edition. Wraps. Small 8vo. Booklet of 15 pages. 4 1/2 inches by 6 . Original pale green printed wraps. Illus on cover of Donald Evans 'by a votary of the typewriter'. No date but WorldCat who have 10 copies suggest 1916. A good portrait of the East Coast poet maudit with much quotation from his poems some possibly printed here for the first time. Donald Evans 1884 -1921 was an American poet publisher music critic and journalist highly rated in his day and still of interest. Born in Philadelphia fought in WW1 associated with the avant-garde scene of Greenwich Village his works relate a strong sense of irony as well as his own personal bohemianism coupled with the deep influence of 1890s aestheticism. Somewhat comparable to fellow bohemian poet Maxwell Bodenheim many stories about his bohemian lifestyle circulated. Evans single-handedly founded and managed the Claire Marie press intending to publish ""New Books for Exotic Tastes"". He stated its goals as thus ""Claire Marie believes there are in America seven hundred civilized people only. Claire Marie publishes books for civilized people only. Claire Marie's aim it follows from the premises is not even secondarily commercial."" Evans was an early admirer of Gertrude Stein. He first published her Tender Buttons in 1914. Evans was also close to Wallace Stevens; it is said that the two planned to write a book of one-line poems together. His works include 1914's Sonnets from the Patagonian 1916's Two Deaths in the Bronx and 1919's Ironica. It is suspected that Evans' death in 1921 was a suicide. Very good indeed. N.l.
