As to the home in Redding there are a few letters from Southern New England Telephone Company about their inability to provide the level of service that Cornwall desires until enough Redding residents become willing to pay for a higher level of service to enable the company to invest profitably in upgrading the levels of service offered. The phone company explains that Jesse's annual Redding bill of $26.80 was that high partly due to the fact that telephone wires for his house had been attached to 44 poles belonging to AT & T for which an annual 20 cent per pole rental charge was due. There are a few letters to and from the CT Secretary os State one of which deals with registration and markers license plates for three cars a 30-35 H P. Locomobile for which he had Connecticut license plate -- marker -- No. 28 a 25-30n H. P. Pope-Hartford and a 6 H. P. De Dion. A $5 receipt from the Automobile Club of American accompanies a 1903 solicitation of membership or renwal of membership. A 1900 note from F. W. Tousey an Assistant Secretary of the Automobile Club of America encloses a clipping from the "Mail & Enterprise about "Saturdays forthcoming 70 mile run to Bridgeport." Two copies of an unused real photo postcard show a young man and an older woman seated in an early automobile -- perhaps Jesse's wife and their son Lawrence in one of Jesse's cars. Several letters deal with Cornwall's Redding summer home including a few to a Redding official asking that certain roads in Redding be improved or made passable. Several letters and notices are to Jesse as a stockholder in The Bridgeport Hardware Mfg. Co. and other businesses. A few letters and documents relate to his son Lawrence as he attended Yale and graduated in 1912 the year in which Jesse died. Lawrence's mother had died a year earlier. A few letters relate to efforts by Lawrence to buy or sell a car in 1913 or 1914. We found almost nothing online about Lawrence's later life. 3333333222222222222222222222222222222222222. unknown

ref. abaa-vbf1937A collection as found in a folder of 67 pieces of original abstract designs done by 2 women. The work is either collage with construction papers or very colorful pastel designs. This probably dated from the 1930's to early 1950. Almost every piece is signed by either artist. I could not find any info on either artist and Moscow Utah was a mine in the 20th century. The artwork is really striking.

Front endpaper with strange discoloring and a bit of rubbing to leather but overall a very good copy with a fine inscription by the author.Inscribed by the author son of Pierre Barlow Cornwall. "To my warm friend Milton Eisner Bruce Cornwall." Milton Daniel Eisner was born in San Francisco on July 15 1886. His father Milton S. Eisner was a prominent San Francisco attorney his mother Lena Reinstein Eisner was a member of a prominent San Francisco family her brother Jacob B. Reinstein having served as a Regent of the University of California at the turn of the century. Both of Eisner's parents were native Californians.P. B. Cornwall was an adventurous fellow. In April of 1848 he set out from St. Joe to California. "The narrative records the encounter with the Mormons four thousand strong under Brigham Young at Council Bluffs following the expulsion from Nauvoo; the capture of Cornwall and his companions by Indians; their final escape and arrival at Fort Laramie" Eberstadt 114. They eventually made it across the Rockies but lost their guide Fallon to Native American depredations. Using Fremont's map they crossed the desert and the Sierra Nevada Mountains and arrived in California. Upon their arrival they were $8000 in debt but by the end of their first year had acquired $500000. Pierre Cornwall went on to lead a very active political life in early California. "The Black Diamond Coal Mining Company the Uellingham Bay and British Columbia Railroad the California Electric Light Company and the Mutual Electric Light Company were organized or promoted by him. He had a wide grasp on commercial problems and remarkable foresight and his ventures . were correspondingly satisfactory. Active in business Mr. Cornwall found time for attending to other interests. Never seeking office for himself he was a hard worker for the success of Republicanism in California. He was chairman of the Republican State Central Committee. He was the last surviving member of the first California Legislature and also of the first California constitutional convention. He was a president of the Society of California Pioneers and a member of the Board of Regents of the University of California." San Francisco Call; 9/26/1904. A. M. Robertxon hardcover
