Usually considered as a period of transition for Italian Melodrama, the last forty years of the nineteenth-century, in terms of music, are largely unexplored where, apart from Giuseppe Verdi and other equally famous composers, many others struggle to achieve a position in the operatic world and time has almost cancelled their efforts. This dictionary endeavours to track them down thus offering scholars and music lovers a new research perspective. 955 gr. viii-536 p.
This volume offers an overview of Italian opera between 1901 and 1925, with a special focus on composers mostly ignored by dictionaries and inventories. The period was characterized by a remarkable eclecticism, and by the fact that of the many operas staged in those years, only those by Giacomo Puccini obtained an enduring popularity. It was also marked by an impressive variety of themes, styles, and personalities of considerable importance. Historiae Musicae Cultores - Biblioteca 126 cm 17 x 24, 2 tomi di x-1012 pp.
