An internal textbook of statistics unrecorded elsewhere produced by the Centre for Training and Development of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company for students at the Al Dhafra training centre established in 1972. The centre was taken over by the ADNOC Technical Academy in 1978 to provide UAE nationals with specialist and technical training in the energy sector particularly oil and gas. The introduction explains that "a clear example of the importance of statistics in our time is the planning undertaken by the state to increase and multiply national income" with industry identified as the primary means of achieving this and statistics as the instrument for measuring progress. The chapters explain statistical concepts and methods of data presentation including pictorial and bar methods geometric figures frequency distribution curves geometric arithmetic and harmonic means and measures of dispersion and correlation including Pearson's correlation coefficient. Folio. Tables and diagrams. Mimeographed typed text in Arabic on one side only. Green spiral binding plastic wrapper at front. First edition of this rare internal report on Iranian oil production commissioned by the Iranian Oil Exploration & Producing Company and the Iranian Oil Refining Company 4 years after the nationalization. WorldCat lists only 3 institutional copies at Princeton Durham and Berlin. Established in 1951 and restructured in 1954 the National Iranian Oil Company owned the Iranian oil facilities collaborating with a consortium of foreign companies to sell on the international market. This report is a summary of the first year of the consortium's activities. It discusses the background of the Iranian oil industry the exploration and drilling of the Iranian Oil Exploration & Producing Co. the activity of the Iranian Oil Refining Company administration and the oil industry revenue. Like the Durham and Berlin copies the present does not include Appendix C 1 leaf graph of monthly oil production and the loose list of illustrations maps and photographs listed in the Appendices section. An informative survey of the Middle East and its oil industry First edition of this excellent handbook for IPC employees outlining the operations and expanding importance of the petroleum industry and surveying the history and current condition of states in Arabia the Gulf and the Levant. Chapter 1 describes the IPC's formation the mechanisms for opening a new concession the history of its prospecting and extraction projects and the Mediterranean pipeline. A chapter on the culture of the Arab world is followed by regional breakdowns that draw on company and government reports. Concerning the Gulf the handbook emphasizes the potential of oil exploration to transform the region. In Qatar where an oil field was discovered in the late 1930s "the population is scanty and wretchedly poor. The Company's present operations supply almost the sole source of wealth. The building of necessary roads jetties dwellings offices workshops stores and the like has advanced simultaneously with drilling" pp. 15 & 69. Accompanying the text are valuable plates showing IPC operations in Kirkuk and near Tripoli views of Qatar and Bahrain from the air and a well with head fittings and flow lines. The folding regional map details oil fields refineries and pipelines both built and projected. A useful tabular appendix summarizes the present state of the IPC's concessions including the area they cover and the rights granted as well as current exploration licenses. Octavo.
