1799In-4°, XX, pp.210, tavola fuori testo legatura in cartonato. In-4°, XX, pp.210, plate, cardboard binding Christian Kramp was a French astronomer, physicist and mathematician, he wrote of various and many subjects treatises on pure mathematics. His main work although of an astronomical nature is - Analyze des refractions astronomiques et terrestres - In this work he addresses the problem of air elasticity in relation to its density but above all it presents a detailed numerical table of transcendental functions which thus became important in the CALCULATION OF PROBALITIES to be called "Kramp's transcendental", also introduced the function "n". Like Bessel, Legendre and Gauss he extended the notion of factorial to non-whole number systems. (See DSB)

1990Best.-Nr. PH-381New York: Springer-Verlag 1990. This monograph offers the first comprehensive treatment of the material properties of non-linear electromagnetic elastic crystals through constitutive equations. The lists and tables given in this volume are essential to the discussion of material properties of magnetic crystal classes and for research in the nonlinear electro-magnetic theory of elastic solids. Nonlinear optics nonlinear magnetism elastic solids subject to large fields plasma physics are but a few areas where one needs nonlinear constitutive equations in their final forms. The method and materials provided here should be useful therefore to material scientists engineers and physicists working in these fields. Several examples of applications to demonstrate the use of the theory are included. 236 pgs. Illustrated. First Edition. Hard Cover. As New. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. . Springer-Verlag Hardcover

1828Best.-Nr. 1018London: R Taylor 1828. OFFPRINT. Original plain blue wrappers. Very good. 4to 2 - title page 257 - 289 paginated 1 - blank pp. 2 steel engraved plates. This a separately issued offprint retaining the original pagination. Kater was a member of the Royal Engineers. He devised and built a number of geodetic instruments for the accurate determination of the longitude and acceleration of gravity see Turner. But his most important contribution to scientific instrumentation is the device described in this offprint. The collimator permitted the alignment of a telescope attached to a circle in any position of the instrument with negligible error. See Lenzen & Multhauf on Kater's instruments. R Taylor unknown books
