Mimeographed pages, including two appendixes plus the supplementary notes mainly by Max Herzberger (Kodak Research Laboratories). The lens named after the author that has found several applications in microwave and millimeter-wave technology is for the first time described here. Luneburg published very little of his researches and this work had a restricted circulation at that time; it was published twenty years later by the University of California Press and reprinted more recently, recognised as one of the most important work in mathematical optics of the XX century.
