réf. 30768Boston/Toronto: Little Brown and Company. Near Fine in Near Fine dj. First Edition. Hardcover. a beautiful copy with just the faintest trace of soiling to the edges of the text block; the jacket is a little scrunched at the top of the spine and very slightly faded along the spine. The author's sixth novel "a haunting bittersweet novel about an incestuous passion and its shattering consequences. Now an unemployed screenwriter in his mid-forties Greg Kendall returns to his family home in Illinois to escape questioning in a Los Angeles drug case and to confront the guilt he still feels over that doomed liaison." The American setting was shifted to Australia for the 2009 film adaptation directed and written by actress Rachel Ward and starring her husband Bryan Brown. It was the final book published under Thornburg's four-book contract with Little Brown and its scarcity in today's marketplace suggests that the publishers might have limited the print run and/or their promotional efforts. But I'm only guessing. . Little, Brown and Company hardcover books

Anderson Galleries Inc. 30 East Fifty-Seventh Street New York. 1935. In this auction lots 307 to 362 listed Eckel's Newton collection this was lot 359. Both Mr. Newton and Mr. Eckel were great friends. Eckel was a bibliographer of Charles Dickens Alfred Edward Newton was an American author publisher and avid book collector. He is best known for his book Amenities of Book Collecting 1918 which sold over 25000 copies. At the time of his death it was estimated that he had approximately 10000 books in his collection focusing on English and American literary works the major part of which were auctioned by Parke-Bernet Galleries New York in April May and October 1941. Highlights of the sale included the autograph manuscripts of Thomas Hardy's novel Far From the Madding Crowd and Charles Lamb's essay Dream Children. However the fall in rare book prices steadily through the Great Depression meant that many sold lots brought only a fraction of prices they would have realized at the time of the Jerome Kern sale in 1929. The three volume Newton sale catalogue remains a useful reference for literature collectors. self published unknown books
