Foi Secretário Geral do Governo de Macau governador de S. Posteriormente exerceu as funções de Director da Cordoaria Real em 1877e tratou do tratado para a rectificação dos limites com o sultanato de Zanzibar em 1883. De aspirante da alfandega municipal em 1857 foi transferido para a alfandega de Lisboa em 1862 passado às classes superiores sendo depois vogal supplente do Conselho Geral das Alfândegas. Foi por alguns anos director da Revista dos Teatros e colaborador de várias folhas. Cavaleiro e comendador da ordem de Carlos III de Espanha e cavaleiro e S. Tiago de Portugal.
