1982ref. 28395New York:: Knopf 1982. First Printing of the First US Edition. A Fine tight copy in a Fine unclipped dust jacket. In The Mists of Avalon the Bradley relates the Arthurian legends from the perspective of the female characters. The book follows the trajectory of Morgaine Morgan le Fay a priestess fighting to save her Celtic religion in a country where Christianity threatens to destroy the pagan way of life. The epic is focused on the lives of Morgaine Gwenhwyfar Guinevere Viviane Morgause Igraine and other women of the Arthurian legend. The Mists of Avalon is in stark contrast to most other retellings of the Arthurian tales which consistently cast Morgan le Fay as a distant one-dimensional evil sorceress with little or no explanation given for her antagonism to the Round Table. In this case Morgaine is presented as a woman with unique gifts and responsibilities at a time of enormous political and spiritual upheaval who is called upon to defend her indigenous heritage against impossible odds. Near Fine. 5 7/8 X 9 1/8 Inches. 339 2 PP. #18 of only 25 signed limited editions prepared and sold by the author himself. Important to note only 22 were available for sale. Without a doubt one of the finest examples of fine leather binding I have ever encountered on a newly issued book. Each of the 25 copies from this limited first printing run are bound in vegatan oiled leather. Due to the nature of the natural tanning process each volume is unique with its own distinctive patterning. What may be perceived as nicks or scratches are really a consequence of the tanning method. The cover is embossed with a stunning relief image of Mad Amos. Housed in original red cloth slipcase. 5 7/8 X 9 1/8 Inches. 339 2 PP. A nice collection of 18 Mad Amos Malone stories which blend fantasy with the western in ways that interest Foster's Fantasy fans as well as lovers of tales of the Old West.
