2022br. Sono ormai passati più di venticinque anni da quel 2 luglio 1993, il giorno della battaglia di Mogadiscio tra le truppe italiane e i ribelli somali. Ma il ricordo di quegli scontri è ancora vivo nella memoria di tutti, non solo di chi lo ha vissuto in prima persona come il generale Paolo Riccò. Conosciuta anche come la battaglia del checkpoint «Pasta» e ricordata per essere stata la prima che ha visto impiegati i militari dell'esercito italiano dalla fine della Seconda guerra mondiale, fu uno scontro molto cruento in cui persero la vita tre soldati italiani e moltissimi altri furono gravemente feriti. La XV compagnia paracadutisti «Diavoli Neri», grazie al durissimo addestramento a cui li aveva sottoposti il loro capitano, il generale Riccò, fu l'unica compagnia in grado di rispondere all'attacco delle milizie somale. In questo racconto serrato e partecipe, il generale Riccò, attuale comandante dell'Aviazione dell'esercito, nonché Medaglia di Bronzo al Valor Militare per il coraggio dimostrato a Mogadiscio, ricostruisce attraverso documenti e testimonianze inedite la vera storia di quei tragici giorni, svelando i particolari di una vicenda i cui aspetti non sono ancora stati del tutto resi noti.
