"In this volume we have at last as complete a record of the lives and works of two great English animal painters as industrious research and artistic acumen can supply. Mr. Shaw Sparrow's appreciation of George Stubbs as a pioneer among our horse painters is just ; it was that rare judge of a horse and exacting art critic the late Sir Walter Gilbey who in 'Animal Painters of England' wrote that 'we might almost divide our British painters of horses into two periods - those who lived before Stubbs and those who followed him and profited by his monumental labours at the Horkstow farmhouse.' To realize fully the merits of his work we must compare his horses with those of men who went before him and of his contemporary Sawrey Gilpin ; thus and only thus can we discern the magnitude of the advance initiated by Stubbs." 1978ref. 29897New York: St. Martin's Press. Near Fine. c.1978. Later Printing. Softcover. nice clean copy with just the barest traces of handling wear. Trade PB color photo section Although cover-blurbed as "The Classic Novel That Spawned the Blockbuster Cult Film" this is in reality a novelization of the film the second in Romero's zombie trilogy which was released in 1978. Although this book bears only the 1978 copyright date it's obviously a later printing as indicated by the mention in the rear-cover blurb of the third film of the group DAY OF THE DEAD which didn't come out until 1985. Also the printed price on the rear cover is $8.95 while I believe the price on the 1978 printing was $4.95. And those who might consider themselves sticklers by observing that I've omitted Romero's middle initial A. from the author statement even though it appears on the front cover I refer you to the book's title page which bibliographically speaking is the primary authority which also leaves it out. .
