Housed in the original black cloth folding box within the cardboard box as issued. A fine as new copy still in the original card mailer. 2020ill., br. Questo libro si presenta come un normale atlante musicale diviso in schede. Ogni disco presentato è corredato da copertina, tracklist, recensione ed eventuale apparato iconografico (la cosiddetta memorabilia: poster di concerti, copertine di singoli, foto significative). Un'impostazione collaudata in stile "i migliori 100 album...", con l'unica differenza che i gruppi citati e gli album recensiti sono del tutto immaginari. Un gioco nato sul web nel 2008 con un intento di détournement situazionista, ma che su carta viene smascherato sin dalla copertina, che sbandiera l'inesistenza del contenuto senza peli sulla lingua. Il gioco, da iniziale "Rock'n'Roll swindle" di lesterbangsiana memoria, si trasforma dunque in manifesta esaltazione delle molteplici possibilità creative della musica. Ma non si tratta di uno sterile divertissement: i dischi fantastici sono solo la chiave, il pretesto, per addentrarsi in un sottobosco di aneddoti, dietrologie, citazioni, calembour linguistici, racconti, riflessioni, distorsioni, deliri, rivalutazioni postume di capolavori sommersi, nel compiaciuto tentativo di spiegare l'evoluzione della musica, l'origine stessa dei miti, il sogno di rivoluzione di intere generazioni. Senza mai sconfinare nella parodia, quanto piuttosto indugiando in una forma anarchica di libertà. Il lettore è dunque invitato a sospendere la propria incredulità e ad abbandonarsi di nuovo al piacere della meraviglia, come un bambino all'interno di una circense wunderkammer.
