Sin da piccoli, siamo abituati a storie, leggende, cartoni animati e film che intrecciano vicende di fate, gnomi, folletti, rospi, salamandre, funghi tossici ed erbe miracolose, ambientati nel sottobosco. L'obiettivo di questo testo è di trasmettere al lettore maggiori conoscenze scientifiche sui reali protagonisti di questo ambiente. Il testo elaborerà sia tematiche generali sul sottobosco sia una concisa esposizione delle principali specie che lo popolano, con tanto di schede descrittive, redatte con rigorosità scientifica. Alle schede descrittive si associano piccole curiosità etologiche e culturali, che aprono al lettore la porta del sottobosco, ambiente che siamo abituati più a calpestare che a osservare.
