2001ref. 034005United Kingdom 2001. Painting. Illus. by Ann Smith. Fine. Framed. Original. 435 x 320 mm. A fine framed and glazed original botanical watercolour painting of tulips 435 x 320 mm frame 530 x 415 mm with a double white acid-free conservation mount and subtle clean-lined solid wood frame with a semi-translucent soft white finish. A fine watercolour painting by the late botanical artist Ann Smith signed and dated 2001 featuring one tulip species and three tulip cultivars with details of their flora parts. The frame is very slightly scratched otherwise in excellent condition ready to hang. Artist's biography: Ann Smith was a goldsmith by trade a highly skilled artisan working out of Chipping Campden in the Cotswolds but with a passion for botanical illustration. She was a member of various botanical art societies; she exhibited at the Royal Horticultural Society RHS Botanical Art exhibitions held in The Lindley Hall London; for the 2004 exhibition she prepared a mixed collection of botanical works including studies of Romneya coulteri and Papaver orientalis 'Beauty of Livermere' in a later exhibition she presented a themed collection featuring various Meconopsis blue popy species and cultivars. Ann Smith was an accomplished botanical artist who painted with great fidelity her plants morphologically accurate and finely detailed but her paintings are always well composed and perhaps it is this her strong sense of composition that is her greatest quality. ABOUT THIS BOOK: This text explains why everyone involved in horse management should understand the principles of correct foot balance and the repercussions of good bad and indifferent shoeing. Studies show that up to 95 per cent of all horses have some form of foot imbalance which will predispose them to injury. Common problems that can be attributed to faulty foot balance include: bad backs; bruised heels; hoof cracks; shortened stride/stumbling; arthritis; navicular disease/syndrome; chip fractures; sheared heels; and degenerative diseases. The book describes how good basic farriery particularly through paying attention to foot balance can be used to maintain and even enhance performance and soundness in the horse. It explains how to check the horse's medio-lateral balance with the aid of a T-square as well as how to assess the hoof/pastern axis and what to look for when picking up the foot. The authors also discuss the connection between poor feet and bad backs and show how skilled farriery can give horses with less-than-perfect conformation the best chance to stay sound.
