2015ABOUT THE BOOK:- Uttar Pradesh (U.P) is one such state which bears high population pressure along with very low social and economic development. It has the highest birth rate and the lowest life expectancy at birth among the major fifteen states of India. There are only limited studies focusing on U.P and these studies have overlooked the inequality at the regional and individual level. The present work is an attempt to fill this gap. This is based on secondary data sources and therefore also has some limitations owing to the lack of data and inadequacies in the data set itself. The objective of the book is to examine the role of public resources in determining the access to health care services that is the accessibility, affordability and acceptability and utilization of health care services across different administrative regions of U.P, namely, Eastern U.P, Central U.P, Bundelkhand and Western U.P. The present work concludes that there is an urgent need for revamping of public health delivery mechanism in U.P in general and Bundelkhand and eastern U.P in particular. Moreover the government need to ensure better functioning of public health centres by ensuring availability of health personnel, equipments and drugs, rather than over-emphasising physical infrastructure. The state cannot leave health sector to market forces simply because health sector is characterized by the asymmetry of information, existence of profit enterprise and externalities. This provides sufficient rationale for the government to participate actively and significantly to safeguard the well being of the masses in general and of the poor and marginalized in particular. 2013Waqf is a unique institution, invariably Muslim, though its fruits are enjoyed by all. Contrary to popular belief in India, Waqfs do not support only Muslim places of worship, but also support schools, colleges, libraries, hospitals, musafirkhanas and such other institutions for public and continue to play their humanitarian role. 2009This book is about women empowerment. It is an initiative to give freedom to women from the clutches of medicalization. As the title indicates the book's main emphasis is on demedicalization because there has been a growing uneasiness and restlessness in many sections of society about the increasing trend of more and more of our daily routine being regulated by doctors and medicine. Solution to every problem is being brought under the purview of medicine. This is happening not without the ubiquitous side effects. It was thought that this medicalization trend itself needs to be curbed and regulated. This book which is a humble attempt in this direction. It should however, be made clear that this book does not advocate that no medicine should be taken. The main emphasis of the book is to impress upon the reader that much (relief) can be achieved without medicine/doctors. If needed, doctors' help/hospital visit may be considered. The book focuses on women as they have been documented to lack adequate access to health. A world of optimal and widespread health is obviously a world of minimal and only occasional medical intervention. The book repeatedly emphasizes a life-style that is conducive to well-being. Such a life-style envisages physical exercise, healthy diet, yoga, spiritual orientation, meditation and philanthropic activities. The book includes a series of home remedies—many of these have been tried in research format by the faculty of various medical institutes. There is extensive description and ample illustrations related to the women's diseases. The range of the diseases that the book has described includes hair loss, dental health, foul smell from the mouth, feticide and skewed sex-ratio, epilepsy, cancer, infertility, knee pain, HIV/AIDS. In each case the book does not stop at giving the physical remedy. The importance of emotional support, mental and emotional equilibrium is appropriately stressed. 2012As Frank Murray discusses in Vitamin A and Beta-Carotene Are Miracle Workers, the two inexpensive vitaming can jump-start the immune system, thereby protecting us against HIV/AIDS, measles, malaria, cancer, diarrhea, blindness, and other life-threatening illnesses., , Like Vitamins D, E and K, Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin that is stored in the liveer, where it becomes a valuable resereve against deficiencies. Few reports in the literature show that it is harmful. Beta-Carotene is pro-vitamin A and is harmless., , Pregnant women should have their vitamin A intake, from foods and supplements, monitored by their doctor so as not to harm the fetus, whose liver is quite small. Children should also have their vitamin A intake evaluated. However, doctors can save children with measles with 100,000 to 200,000 IU of the vitamin inn two days., , As Richard A. 2013Realizing the importance of intangible cultural heritages of India and their documentation, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya has undertaken the task of preparing selective bibliographies on various aspects of intangible cultural heritages to facilitate scholars and researchers in their pursuit of knowledge. It is proposed to be a multi-volume exercise due to enormous literature available on the subject. Volume II incorporates ethno-medical practices in India. Subsequent volumes on other aspects of intangible cultural heritage of India would follow these volumes soon. There was a time in the past, when it was possible to a scholar to keep himself up to date and well informed on current literature in his field of interest. But due to the increase in the amount of literature available, it has become more and more difficult for him to do so. But for bibliography even a scholar faced with such a vast amount of literature would lose his way, wasting much time before he is able to read even a part of what he is required to study. Much has been written on the Ethno-medicines, and the related fields and the references are many and distributed over numerous journals, monographs, memoirs, Internet database and other publications that are not easily accessible to research workers and the seekers of information. Keeping in view these facts, it has been considered useful to compile a bibliography available. This bibliography on ‘Intangible cultural heritage of India: a selected bibliography. Vol. II: Ethno-medicines in India aimed at covering scholarly literature on concerned and related fields. We sincerely hope that this bibliography would be useful for Scientists, research scholars, Anthropologists, and other personnel related with this field. About The Author:- Profile of Prof. Kamal K.
