Carlos Calamita, amigo de Ramón Gómez de la Serna en sus comienzos, y colaborador en "Prometeo", es el destinatario de la dedicatoria autógrafa de uno de los tres ejemplares existentes de su "Libro Mudo", de 1911. Como juez de guardia en Madrid esquivó el golpe de un pesado tintero arrojado por un abogado detenido llamado José Antonio Primo de Rivera, a quien condenaría a prisión por desacato. Al comenzar la guerra civil fue encarcelado. Tras escapar y refugiarse en la Embajada de Noruega, paso a zona nacional y fue repuesto en la judicatura en 1938, muriendo en Madrid en 1956.

Two small perforations in the upper margin of the card, as is usual in Juan Luis Buñuel's collection. "What an incredible face Luis had, I was glad to see "Belle de Jour" for the first time." In 1939, Luis Buñuel, who had just received an offer to work in Hollywood, decided, with his wife and child, to leave the chaotic situation in Europe to go and live the American Dream. The penniless Buñuels initially spent a few precarious months living in New York. Luis Buñuel found himself forced to ask Dalihis longstanding friend in exile, along with Gala, during these yearsto lend him some money. His request was refused in no uncertain terms, putting an end to the two men's friendship. Thus it was Calder, whom Luis had perhaps already met in Paris in the 1920s, who put the whole family up in his Upper Side apartment. Juan Luis Buñuel, the artist's godson, sensed that his interest in sculpture began in this same period: "When Dali told my father he would not lend him any money, he contacted him [Calder]. He offered his house to us and we lived with his family for a time. I can only vaguely remember it, but it was then that I started to become interested in sculpture and he encouraged me" (Anton Casto, Juan Luis una entrevista). Despite the geographical distance that would come to separate them, Alexander Calder would remain a friend of the Buñuel family. The relationship between the artist and the film-maker is, however, almost entirely absent from the biographies, and this correspondence is a rare testimony to the profound connection between the sculptor and the Buñuel family. Originally based in Naples, Morghen had been invited to Florence by grand duke Ferdinand III in 1782 to make reproductions of the masterworks of the Uffizi Gallery. He founded an acadamy for copper print engraving and earned his international reputation. In 1812 Napoleon invited him to work in Paris but Morghen declined the offer. - Johann Friedrich Frauenholz started as a canvas dealer in Nuremberg and rose to become one of the most important art dealers and collectors of his time. He was co-founder of the first art society in Germany, the "Kunst-Societät", in 1792. Friedrich Schiller und Johann Wolfgang von Goethe were among Frauenholz' correspondents. - With a registrar's mark and traces of seal. Slightly browned.

Wohl an den Bürgermeister der Gemeinde Reichenau betr. eines Ansuchens um Erteilung eines Hausierverbotes: "Nach § 5 der Vollzugsvorschrift zum Hausierpatente ex 1852 kann ein Hausierverbot nur bei Vorhandensein 'ganz besonderer Gründe' erlassen werden. Auf Grund dieser Bestimmung, welche die Untersagung des Hausierhandels als eine nur ausnahmsweise zu treffende Maßnahme zuläßt, wird der Hausierhandel (abgesehen von den Hausierverboten für einige Landeshauptstädte und in Nieder-Oesterreich an der ungarischen Grenze gelegenenen Gemeinden) nur in den gesetzlich für Kurorte erklärten Gebieten und zwar für die Dauer der Kur- beziehungsweise Badesaison untersagt. Andere Momente (wie z. B. der Umstand, daß ein Ort beliebte Sommerfrische ist, daß sich dortselbst eine Heilanstalt befindet, oder daß es sich um einen Wallfahrtsort handelt) wurden bisher niemals als 'ganz besondere Gründe' im Sinne des § 5 der Vollzugsvorschrift zum Hausierpatent anerkannt. Nach dem in parlamentarischer Behandlung stehenden Gesetzentwurfe soll hingegen für die Untersagung des Hausierhandels eine breitere Basis geschaffen werden, so daß nach dem Zustandekommen des neuen Hausiergesetzes ein Hausierhandelsverbot in solchen Orten wie Reichenau-Payerbach würde erlassen werden können [...]" (Br. v. 10. VI. 1904). - Call zu Rosenberg und Kulmbach war über viele Jahre hinweg im österreichischen diplomatischen Dienst tätig und kehrte 1900 als Handelsminister im Kabinett Körber nach Österreich zurück. Bekannt wurde er durch den auf sein Betreiben hin durchgeführten großzügigen Ausbau des Hafens von Triest. Die Zusammenfassung aller künstlichen Wasserstraßen Österreich-Ungarns zu einem System konnte er nicht durchsetzen. Nach seinem Rücktritt 1905 wurde er Erster Sektionschef im Ministerium des Äußeren (1907-09). Als Botschafter in Tokio nahm er von 1909-11 seine diplomatische Tätigkeit noch einmal auf. - Beide Br. auf Briefpapier mit gepr. Briefkopf des k.k. Handelsministers.
