Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau. - Born into a prominent family of German painters, Crodel was a co-founder of the Munich Secession and applied himself to landscape painting, his winter landscapes and use of sombre colours earning him the byname "Schnee-und-Regen-Crodel". - Faint traces of postal stamps. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.

An eine Dame, deren Brief und inliegenden Prospekt ihres neuen Buches sie verlegt habe und erst durch den Verlag wieder an deren Adresse gekommen sei: "[...] Allerdings kann ich leider Ihr Buch nicht besprechen, da ich niemals Bücher rezensiere - es liegt mir absolut nicht, ich habe Ihnen dies vermutlich schon einmal geschrieben, als statt meiner Doktor Beringer, einer unserer Freunde, Ihr Buch besprach [...]". - Die aus Bad Dürkheim stammende Schriftstellerin stand in Kontakt zum Kreis um Michael Georg Conrad, in dessen "Gesellschaft für modernes Leben" sie als einziges weibliches Mitglied aufgenommen wurde. 1887 schrieb sie ihre erste Novelle "Das Kind", die in Conrads Monatsschrift "Die Gesellschaft" veröffentlicht wurde. "Mit 'Feierabend. Münchner Arbeiter-Novelle' (1890), einer krassen Milieuschilderung, wurde sie einer großen Leserschaft bekannt. Seit 1888 verheiratet, zog Croissant-Rust mit ihrem Mann 1895 nach Ludwigshafen und kehrte erst 1904 wieder nach München zurück, wo ihr Haus zu einem bekannten literarischen Treffpunkt wurde. 1906 bzw. 1908 veröffentlichte sie ihre beiden Romane 'Die Nann' und 'Winkelquartett'. Ihr 1914 erschienener Zyklus 'Der Tod', ein von Willi Geiger illustrierter literarischer Totentanz, zeigt die Stilentwicklung dieser Dichterin vom Jugendstil bis hin zu vorexpressionistischen Ansätzen" (DBE).

Regards some cryptic naval incident -- in part: "I think it proper to observe that you do not appear to have seen the difficulty which I intended to submit to Lord Melbourne. My doubt did not apply so much to the treatment of the seamen who might be stranded as to that of the town into which such persons may have been thrown" and he goes on at length to explain that the whole town may have been subjected to the stranded seamen. Cromwell, Oliver, Lord protector of England, Scotland and Ireland (1599-1658).
Autograph letter signed ("O Cromwelle"). No place, 3. IV. 1648.
Folio (200 x 306 mm). 2 pp. on a bifolium (written cross- and lengthways, over 700 words in total) with frequent autograph corrections. Laid down on card for reinforcement in the 18th century. To Richard Norton, a leading parliamentarian who had served as a colonel of cavalry in the first civil war and had returned as member of parliament for Hampshire in 1645, seeking to expedite the marriage of his son Richard Cromwell to Dorothy Maijor (1627-76), as the country descended into the Second Civil War. - Dorothy was the daughter of Richard Maijor, an obscure member of the Hampshire gentry. It was probably Norton who had introduced Cromwell to Maijor, and he subsequently served as intermediary in the negotiations, which began in February 1648 and were not concluded until May the following year. Although Cromwell is known to have expressed doubts about the "godliness" of an alternative, more lucrative match, monetary concerns were evidently central to his consideration of Dorothy's own suitability. Cromwell's detailed discussion of such matters offers a fascinating insight into both his financial and domestic arrangements: - "Mr Maior desired 400£ p anum of inheritance lyinge in Cambridge shire and Norfolke to bee presently settled and to be for maintenance, wherein I desired to be advised by my wife [...] Having beene enformed by Mr Robinson that Mr Maior did upon a former match offer to settle the mannor wherein hee lived, and to give 2000£ in monie, I did insist upon that, and doe desire itt may not be with difficulty, the monie I shall neede for my two little wenches, and thereby I shall free my sonn from beinge charge with them. Mr Maior parts with nothing in present but that monie, saving thir board, wch I should not bee unwilling to give them to enyoy the comfort of their society [...] Truly the land to bee settled both what the Parliament gives mee, and my owne, is very little lesse than 3000£ per anum all thinges considered. If I bee rightly enformed. And a lawyer of Lincolns Inn having searched all the Marquess of Worcesters writings wch were taken att Ragland and sent for by the Parliament and this gentleman appointed by the committee to search the sayd writings, assures mee, there is noe scruple concerning the title, and itt soe fell out that this gentleman whoe searched was my owne lawyer, a very godly able man, and my deere friend, wch I reckon noe smale mercy, hee is alsoe possest of the the writings for mee". - His son's marriage to Dorothy produced four children who survived into adulthood, but ended unhappily, as Richard went into semi-voluntary exile on the continent in 1660 following the Restoration, after which the couple did not see each other again. The "two little wenches" are Cromwell's daughters Mary and Frances, who by their own respective marriages later became Countess Fauconberg and Lady Russell. Cromwell was close to Norton and dubbed him "Idle Dick", deploying the nickname towards the end of the letter in a moment of friendly humour ("I know thou art an idle fellow, but prithee neglect mee not now"). - Primary source material for Cromwell's activities during the chaotic spring of 1648 is rare: parliamentary diaries for the period are fragmentary, and Cromwell's whereabouts "are not generally known" (ODNB). Charles made his first attempt at escape from Carisbrooke Castle on 20 March, and the rapid spread of royalist uprisings will have required Cromwell to travel swiftly and widely across the country. In May he fought his first battle in full command, at Preston, during which the invading Scottish force was decisively defeated. By January 1649, having outmanoeuvred Fairfax to see through the trial and execution of the king, he was the single most powerful figure in England. - Old folds; 18th century manuscript docket. Brummer versprach mir die evtl. erscheinenden günstigen Kritiken zu zuschicken, es kam aber bis jetzt keine, jedenfalls waren sie bis auf Ihre liebenswürdige Beurteilung alle schlecht. Ich bedauerte sehr, daß ich Sie nicht mehr zu sehen bekam, auch hätte ich Sie bestimmt am Tage des Concerts früh noch besucht, wenn Loewe mich nicht mehrmals um 10 Uhr hätte bitten lassen zu einer Probe mit Orgel. Bis 12 Uhr dauerte der Scherz, Capellm. Rottwell traf mich auch nicht im Hotel deßhalb, ich sah ihn erst später. Nach dem Concert war es noch sehr nett, schade, daß Sie nicht dabei sein konnten. Bing Crosby's four sons toured together as a singing group throughout the 1950s and into the '60s appearing in nightclubs and on television. IPsS magazine stock 7�" X 6�" and 3�" X 6�" respectively n.p. 1960 February 2. Very good. Several faint and inoffensive tape stains at corners. This single black and white portrait of the four brothers in suits and ties appeared in a fan magazine spanning onto a second page where brother Phil apppeared at far right on the second page -- hence the admirer in removing it for signing had no choice but to remove it in two parts which when positioned side by side of course show the single image. The larger clipped image shows left to right Lindsay Gary and Dennis while the smaller clipped image shows Phil. Above his head Lindsay pens "To Don -- / Best of Luck Always -- / Lindsay / 2-2-60" alongside Gary's head he pens "Best wishes / to Don / Gary" and alongside Dennis's head he pens "Good luck Don / Dennis." Alongside Phil's head he pens "Hey Don / 'Keep swinging' / Phil / Crosby." Lindsay and Gary sign in blue ballpoint Dennis and Phil in red ballpoint. The jinxed and troubled Crosby Brothers had difficulty coping the demands of show biz couple with a famous father and alcoholic mother. Lindsay committed suicide by shotgun in 1989 Dennis committed suicide by shotgun in 1991 Gary died of cancer in 1995 and Phil of a heart attack in 2004. unknown

Fondé en 1827 au 93 rue d'Esquermes, le Monastère Notre-Dame de la Plaine accueillait 38 Bernardines et 300 élèves de familles riches, dans un immense parc orné de nombreuses statues. Fondé en 1827 au 93 rue d'Esquermes, le Monastère Notre-Dame de la Plaine accueillait 38 Bernardines et 300 élèves de familles riches, dans un immense parc orné de nombreuses statues. Müller im "Hotel zum Kaiser" in Erfurt mit der Reservierung einer angebotenen Wohnung, der Bitte um Preisverhandlung und einigen Wünschen: "Sollte das Wetter noch so rauh sein als jetzt so bitte ich die Zimmer etwas heizen zu lassen; außerdem werde ich Sie bitten mir einen kleinen Gefallen zu thun ich wünsche nemlich eine Zeitung die wie ich gehört habe in Erfurt erscheinen wird, und alle Verhandlungen des Reichstags enthalten soll zu halten, und bitte mich dazu zu abonniren [...]". - Von Croy war im Jahr 1850 als Mitglied des "Staatenhauses" (erste Kammer) Delegierter zum Erfurter Unionsparlament. - Mit Siegelrest, leicht stock- und etwas braunfleckig.

An die Glasmanufaktur Lobmeyr in Wien: "Zur Vervollständigung eines Services bitte ich Sie mir nach beifolgenden Mustern 12 Wein- und 6 Wassergläser anfertigen zu lassen. Das Chiffre bitte ich ganz wie auf dem Muster machen zu lassen, nur bitte ich statt der hierauf befindlichen Krone, die irrthümlicher Weise so gemacht ist, die einfache Fürstenkrone darauf anzubringen [...]". - Der Sohn von Philipp Franz Prinz von Croÿ und Johanna Wilhelmine Auguste Prinzessin zu Salm-Salm war Herr auf Schloß Buchberg am Kamp. 1823 von Karl Prinz von Croy erworben, beherbergte das Schloß eine bedeutende Kunstsammlung und wurde bis nach Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs von Mitgliedern der Familie bewohnt. Zu Beginn der 1960er Jahre leerstehend und verwahrlosend, wurde es 1965 von der Privatstiftung der Familie Bogner aus der Konkursmasse erworben und restauriert und beherbergt seit 1979 den Kunstverein Buchberg.

Im Text findet sich die Skizze eines Heißluftballons (ca. 55:35 mm). Die Entwicklung der Ballonfahrt wurde im 19. Jahrhundert v. a. in Großbritannien vorangetrieben und faszinierte Cruikshank, der sie häufiger thematisierte (u. a.: "Lofty Projects" (1825), "Sketches by Boz" (Dickens, 1836), "Air-um Scare-um Travelling" (1843) und "Table-Book" (1845)". - Leichte Randläsuren.

Two volumes in one. pp. xxxi, 558; 255. Misbound with some signatures repeated. Maybe missing one or two leaves of text in title 10. Mixed signatures and pagination. Signed twice with the manuscript autograph of the original owner, Garret Dorset Wall (1783-1850). Wall was an attorney who commanded a New Jersey regiment in the War of 1812. In 1829 he was elected Governor of New Jersey, but declined to serve. He was U.S. Senator for New Jersey form 1835-1841. Foxed. Damp stain. 240 mm. Original worn full polished roan binding with scroll on edges of boards. Original leather spine label. Spine very worn with loss. Extremely important text on the law of Real-Estate issued for an American audience. This edition (two volumes in one) seems to be quite scarce and much rarer than the (five volume?) edition issued in the same year by Alsop, Brannan and Alsop. Peters in Leipzig, der er den Erhalt seines Honorars "für mein letztes Concert" meldet: "[...] Ihre Bemerkungen über die Composition meines letzten Concerts sind sehr richtig [...] Es ist gantz wahr daß dieses Concert nicht so lieblich tönt wie das erste; dies kann aber auch nicht der Fall sein, denn ich habe es in einem pathetischen Stil geschrieben, und den mechanischen Theil desselben weit schwerer gesetzt. Dies geschah, um die Kenner zu befriedigen, und zugleich dem Virtuosen etwas Künstliches zu liefern, worauf sie doch Werth zu setzen scheinen, und besonders weil man in der Recension meines ersten Concerts es zu leicht gefunden hatte. Mein künftiges Concert (das ich Ihnen bei Gelegenheit schicken werde) soll aber, wie ich hoffe, den Ohren mehrerer Zuhörer, so wie jenes erste schmeicheln, und dem Virtuosen doch auch zu gläntzen Gelegenheit geben [...]". - Das Adreßblatt mit einigen Ausrissen.

¾ S. 4to. Mit der Richtigstellung eines Zeitungsartikels: "Berichtigung der in No. 1. der Vaterlandsblätter vom 1. Jan. d. J. abgedruckten, mich betreffende Correspondenzartikel, welcher mir erst heute hier durch Privatmittheilung bekannt worden ist, beruht durchaus auf Unwahrheit [dies unterstrichen], denn weder jetzt noch früher habe ich an der Neuen Preußischen Zeitung oder an irgend einem anderen politischen Blatte mitgearbeitet, bin auch noch immer nicht hierzu geneigt [...]". - Crusius gehörte bis 1848 der Ersten Kammer des Sächsischen Landtages an. Er initiierte und gründete zahlreiche Zusammenschlüsse wie die "Versammlungen der deutschen Land- und Forstwirthe“ und die "Hagelschäden-Versicherungs-Gesellschaft im Königreich Sachsen". Außerdem arbeitete er als Mitglied in Initiativen wie dem "Leipzig-Dresdner-Eisenbahn-Comité". - Mit Sammlernotiz in Blei, stellenweise etwas braunfleckig, mit längerem Randeinriss, dieser mit Papier hinterlegt.
