‎AUTOGRAPHE - PHOTOGRAPHIES.‎

‎AUTOGRAPHS by two daughters of Queen Victoria four of her grandchildren and a daughter in law‎

‎Helena Her Highness Princess Christian of Schleswig-Holstein and Beatrice HRH Princess Henry of Battenberg ; and Helena Victoria Her Highness Princess Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein Charles Edward Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Duke of Albany‎

‎HRH The Duchess of Albany for the Royal Waterloo Hospital 1906. These seven autographs come from a 250-copy printing of a 1906 album of autographs by members of royalty the aristocracy the church politicians and other celebrities of the day which were assembled by the Duchess of Albany on behalf of the Royal Waterloo Hospital for Children and Women of which she was then President. The signatories here gave their married titles at the time together with a quotation or apercu. The Duchess of Albany herself was married to Charles Edward Queen Victoria's grandson; Victoria Eugenie Victoria's granddaughter became HM Queen of Spain by marriage just three weeks before this album was issued and narrowly survived a bomb attack on the way back from her wedding but there was just enough time before printing for her new title to be added to both the contents list of this album and to the reverse of her autograph; Alice was the last surviving grandchild of Queen Victoria. Undoubtedly a unique group of royal autographs from the Edwardian era. HRH The Duchess of Albany for the Royal Waterloo Hospital, 1906 unknown‎

His world of fantasy use of color and light and whimsical scenery set the tone for a century of tremendous book illustration from The Hobbit to Harry Potter. Mild toning to edges. ‎Mls. Holograph letter of Elizabeth Fry dated 5/2 1837.‎

‎Devonshire Street. 3 pages 23x 19cm signed with the post mark and addres s on the verso of the last page. Book Mr Dear Friend After I parted from thee the other day I had some conversa tions with our landlady at the Inn at Cambridge upon the subject of having the Holy Scriptures in the different rooms as I had observed it done in som e other Inns. I thought that real advantage was likely to result from it I was pleased to find that she quite entered into my views and appeared anxi ous to have them. She said that every care should be taken of them. I am no w therefore anxious to know whether the Bible Society would grant a certain number of Bibles & Testaments for this purpose. I believe it has been done in some places. I hope thou will excuse my troubling thee in this way but I feel sure thou will be willing to aid me in it as it may be doing good t o others. When thou hath considered the subject be so kind as to inform me when thou thinks can be done to accomplish my wishes. The remembrance o f the time we spent together is very pleasant to me & I trust profitable. I can assure thee I felt quite refreshed .with the morning in thy room. I hope it may prove stimulatory to follow them who through faith & patience i nherit the promises. I am now attending my dear niece Priscilla Johnston wh o is confined & as I am rather pressed by many engagements I fear I must sa y farewell. With desires that the Great Head of the Church may be very near continually to qualify thee for his own work & to defend thee with his who le armour from all the wiles of the Devil that thou . . in every ev il day & live to His praise. I remain In Christian care Thy obliged frie nd Eliz Fry. My direction is Upton Lane West Ham near London.Address on o utside. London May three 1837. Read Wm. Carus Trin. Col. Andw. Johnst on Cambridge. - Although best remembered as a prison reformer Elizabeth F ry was actively involved as a member of the Society of Friends. ‎Tallahassee FL: Original Letter 1979. Ephemera. Single Sheet. Near Fine. 8 1/2 X 11 Inches. Rare TLS Typed Letter Signed from Pulitzer Prize winning author Michael Shaara. Letter on author's personal "Tallahassee" stationery. Shaara was a lifetime writer but consistently struggled with the page. and publishers apparently. As time would tell he had but one truly great book in him although he dreamed of an autobiographical Shakespeare novel that would top "The Killer Angels". Interestingly Shaara also wrote the book "For the Love of the Game" later published and adapted to the Kevin Costner film of the same name. The Killer Angels was Shaara's Pulitzer Prize winner and is most certainly the book he is remembered for. In part "Please excuse me for taking so long to answer your letter. First I was out of the country and then when I go back I was sick for a while - one problem was drugs overdose after a motorcycle accident." Boldly signed at the conclusion in blue ink. A very candid conversational letter in classic Shaara style. Original Letter unknown‎
