Autographs THURMOND Strom
Senator Strom Thurmond SC 1996 Typed Letter Signed RE: IMMIGRATION CONTROL
Washington DC: Original Letter 1996. Original Letter. Single Sheet. Near Fine. 8 1/2 X 11 Inches. South Carolina Senator Strom Thurmond signed letter TLS regarding the final passage of "Immigration Control and Financial Responsibility Act of 1996". The Act of Congress set out to increase control over immigration in the United States by increasing border patrol and personnel at detention facilities along the border. The Act also attempted to improve the system used by employers to verify citizenship and increase the penalty for those involved in any aspect of illegal immigration to the United States. Senator Strom Thurmond from South Carolina was the longest serving Senator in United States history. Known for his stance against the Civil Rights bills of 1957 and 1964 Thurmond was widely recognized for his seemingly obvious racial bias. An important letter from the then Chair of the Senate Armed Services Committe and a reminder of the immigration troubles of the Clinton administration not unlike those of today. Fold-marks and stamp of reciept from the Children's Services Board of Fort lauderdale FL. Original Letter unknown

Typed Letter signed. 1pp to "Mr. Simon" dated November 15 1941
Croton-on-Hudson 1941. Regarding the recipient's letter to the Reader's Digest of September 24 Eastman had been hired as an editor for the conservative publication earlier in the same year. The subject appears to be the institution of the death penalty in the Soviet Union: ".Nobody questions the fact that the death penalty was decreed for theft of 'socialist property' and the extension of all penalties to children twelve years old automatically extends that one. I am sorry to say I can not tell you offhand when the previous decree was issued but I think it was the Spring of 1934." Brief 1-pp TLS on Eastman's personal Croton-On-Hudson letterhead addressed to a "Mr. Simon" dated November 14 1941. Single holograph correction in Eastman's hand. Mailing folds; slightly toned at margins; Very Good. unknown

Autographs HULL Cordell
United States Senator and US Secretary of State CORDELL HULL November 23 1932 Signed Typed Letter TLS; "Many large groups of American people are in a frightful condition."
Washington DC: Original Letter 1932. Original Letter. Single Sheet. Near Fine. 8 X 10 1/2 Inches. November 23 1932 Typed Letter Signed TLS from US Senator Cordell Hull to "Skull and Bones" member Diplomat and Wall Street Banker Samuel Reading Bertron. Bertron was a noted Presidential advisor of several administrations. This letter is of particular interest as Tennessee Senator Cordell Hull expresses without disguise his view of America and the trouble her citizens are in. In the third year of the great depression that lastest more than a decade Hull writes: "Many large groups of American people are in a frightful condition. They are not able to pay one half of their taxes for the past year. They are in in a most ugly state of mind. Without going into details I shall hope to see you and talk out with you some of the more important and pressing phases which are uppermost in our minds." On Official United States Senate stationery. Fold-marks. A very nice remnant that clearly exhibits the concern the future Secretary of State has for his country during the height of the Great Depression. Original Letter unknown

AUTRY Gene 1907 98
Inscribed Photograph Signed
Known as "The Singing Cowboy" this Western star appeared in dozens of films between 1934 and 1954; turning his attention to baseball he became successful owner of the California Angels. IPS 3" X 3" n.p. n.d. October 1955. Very good. Light tape stain at each corner. Original one-of-a-kind black-and-white snapshot of Autry in full cowboy regalia signing an autograph surrounded by a couple of fans. At the bottom in bold black fountain pen he inscribes and signs: "To Donald / With My best / wishes / Gene Autry." The ink skips a bit on the "ld" in "Donald" and the "st" in "best" and one tape stain imposes partly on the "G" in "Gene." Overall still an attractive example on a unique image. Likely taken at the Coliseum in Chicago. unknown
