There are also instructions in digging a pond both fresh and salt water fist and 8 pages of recipes for cooking fish including pickling salmon cooking eel after the Italian manner pike with a pudding in its belly dressing perch after the Dutch manner also a pickled mushroom recipe. It was bought by a Canadian paper consortium and this brochure is evidence of their efforts to attract fishermen. It is well illustrated and includes selections from a fictional fishing diary. He notes "All of these pamphlets are rare."<br/>This eighth edition includes the printed Tariff and Schedule for the season beginning 1 June 1941 4 pp. loosely inserted. One of 500 copies. 22 plates by Henry Alken and others. 1 vols. 4to. Fine Reprint of the Rare Classic 'sporting Repository" of 1822. The Sporting Repository a London periodical of almost legendary rarity particularly the final June issue appeared in only six monthly issues January-June 1822. There were a number of short-lived sporting journals around this time but this one was notable by the inclusion of 19 colored plates by Alken and J. Barenger. Not all of these are of top quality and the publishers of this 1904 reprint while reproducing most with careful fidelity have replaced six of the weaker ones with nine others of superior quality by Alken Dighton and Ben Marshall for a total of 22. Apart from this the contents are as in the original and the resulting volume is not only handsome but of continuing interest to the sportsman and to anyone interested in Regency England. One of the rarest of early American illustrated sporting books.<br/>As of the Van Winkle Sale only two copies were known with the wrappers; and Ernest Gee in his Introduction to the Derrydale facsimile of 1929 stated that he was able to trace only three copies adding: "It may be described as the most profusely illustrated early sporting book published in America as it contains twenty superb woodcuts delineating the various Field Sports practised at that time."
