Il libro nasce dal convincimento che non sia possibile proporre un'interpretazione plausibile di qualsivoglia testo, massime se si tratta di opere dei primi secoli, se non tramite un corpo a corpo con le sfide offerte dalla sua lettera, e con un esauriente chiarimento di essa. Ciò non significa indugiare esclusivamente su tale aspetto (che pure, per un autore medioevale, è primario); piuttosto quella premessa è la sola che, implicando in ogni sua stazione argomentativa un quadro necessariamente più ampio, permette a ognuno dei due movimenti di irrobustirsi vicendevolmente. I tre grandi protagonisti della letteratura trecentesca sono qui oggetto tanto di analisi ravvicinate, quanto di indagini di più ampia portata, quanto infine di questioni di metodo (commento ai testi, problemi testuali). Lettera indirizzata a Sebastiano Ciampi che aveva pubblicato un'opera sull'opinione di Boccaccio intorno alla papessa Giovanna. Il teologo Mariano Scoto scrisse che, quando nell'854 mori' Leone IV, a lui successe Giovanna per due anni, cinque mesi e quattro giorni. Bocaccio, nell'operetta latina De mulieribus claris, traccio' un ritratto di cento donne che ebbero un ruolo importante nel mondo classico e cristiano, dedicandone anche uno a Giovanna Angelica papessa.

brossura Le ricette che troverete in questo testo sono state rielaborate dallo chef Shady Hasbun prendendo spunti dai primi manoscritti italiani di cucina del XIV sec. Questi libri esprimono una cultura già definibile come italiana, pur muovendosi in una logica più ampia, il modello suggerito non è di tipo locale bensì internazionale, una sorta di "koiné" con molti punti in comune e ricette ricorrenti nelle varie aree d'Europa. Il superamento del concetto ristretto di "territorio" rappresentava nel Medioevo un obiettivo delle tavole dei ceti superiori, che ambivano a una cucina per così dire "artefatta" oltre le dimensioni locali. Questo modello non escludeva tuttavia la possibilità di individuare nel contesto europeo degli ambiti di identità culturale più "nazionali" e "regionali". Se sul piano politico l'Italia non esisteva, sul piano culturale era invece una realtà ben viva anche attraverso i sapori e i modelli del gusto.

Il presente volume esamina, concentrandosi sul Decameron, le molte immagini, i frequenti termini lessicali e le immaginose metafore provenienti dalla sfera della gastronomia presenti nel tessuto narrativo dell'opera rivelandone la matrice naturalistica e umana e il gusto dell'autore per il quotidiano. Il cibo viene qui considerato nella sua fisicità e sensualità di entità commestibile e come riflesso di abitudini culinarie e precetti medici dell'epoca. Si è voluto dimostrare che nella rappresentazione del cibo, Boccaccio illustra la potenza e la centralità dei sensi nella vita umana e ne celebra gioiosamente la loro funzione conoscitiva. Pertanto questo studio si propone di evidenziare lineamenti particolari dell'arte del grande narratore certaldese che rappresenta l'universalità della vita umana nella varietà dei narrati ma anche le particolarità caratterizzanti del quotidiano. Allo scopo di rispettare la struttura del Decameron come ideata dal suo autore, le analisi delle ricorrenze di cibo sono raggruppate per giornata e per argomento.
