Contains the bookplate of one George Duff Jnr of Wimbledon. Condition: In decorative cloth binding with gilt detailing. Externally quite smart there is some wear to the boards joints extremities and backstrip with some sunning to backstrip strain to hinges andmarkings to boards. The Decameron Italian: Decamerone subtitled Prince Galehaut Italian: Prencipe Galeotto is a collection of novellas by the 14th-century Italian author Giovanni Boccaccio 13131375. The book is structured as a frame story containing 100 tales told by a group of seven young women and three young men sheltering in a secluded villa just outside Florence to escape the Black Death which was afflicting the city. Boccaccio probably conceived the Decameron after the epidemic of 1348 and completed it by 1353. The various tales of love in The Decameron range from the erotic to the tragic. Complete in two volumes. Condition: In orange cloth bindings with gilt detailing. Externally smart with just a few marks and some slight bumping. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. The imprint is false printed in Paris. Giovanni Boccaccio In French Jean Bocace was an Italian author poet and correspondent of Petrach. Boccaccio wrote a number of notable works including the Decameron and On Famous Women. As a poet who wrote in the Italian vernacular Boccaccio is particularly noted for his realistic dialogue which differed from his contemporaries. Condition: In paper covered boards. Externally sound with some wear to spines and bumping to extremities. Spines browned. Ink signature to front pastedown of volume I. Internally generally firmly bound.
