Der Bearbeiter nutzte die Hilfe in- und ausländischer wissenschaftlicher Bibliotheken und wurde von sowjetischen und japanischen Forschern in Spezialfragen unterstützt. Nach der 1916 in Goedekes "Grundriß zur Geschichte der deutschen Dichtung" publizierten, die Literatur bis zum Jahre 1909 erschließenden Bibliographie von Franz Muncker ist die vorliegende "Lessing-Bibliographie" ;die erste umgreifende Bestandsaufnahme der Lessing-Lileratur und damit ein unentbehrliches Hilfsmittel der modernen Lcssing-Forschung. Zahlreiche Verweise im Text, ein Sach- und ein Personenregister machen die Bibliographie leicht handhabbar. Mit über 6300 Titelaufnahmen belegt sie die weltweite Verbreitung und Wirkung von Leasings dichterischem, philosophischem und kritischem Werk.‎
